No R2 battery-pack recall is established by the official sources cited here. If you own an R2 and receive a recall notice—or see a credible report—check your specific vehicle by its 17-character VIN, read Rivian’s instructions for that campaign, and arrange the remedy through the channel named in the notice. Do not assume a particular driving, charging, or parking restriction unless Rivian’s vehicle-specific guidance says so.
First, confirm whether your specific R2 is affected
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) distinguishes a vehicle-specific VIN lookup from a make-and-model search: the latter provides general recall information, while a VIN search checks for unrepaired recalls associated with one vehicle. Find the 17-character VIN on the vehicle or its registration, then enter it in NHTSA’s recall lookup.
Rivian identifies the R2 as one of its electric SUV models on its R2 model page, but that page is not a recall notice. The official sources cited here do not establish an R2 battery-pack recall, affected VIN range, defect, interim safety instructions, or remedy. Treat any general R2 search result as a lead, not confirmation that your vehicle is included.

What to do if you receive a recall notice
- Match the notice to your vehicle. Compare the VIN in the notice with the VIN on your vehicle, and check NHTSA’s lookup for an unrepaired recall.
- Follow the notice’s interim safety guidance. NHTSA advises owners to follow any interim guidance provided by the manufacturer. Do not infer that you must stop driving, avoid charging, or park outdoors unless the applicable Rivian notice or campaign instructions say so.
- Arrange the remedy using the named channel. NHTSA’s general guidance says to contact the local dealership to have a recalled part fixed free of charge. For an R2, use Rivian’s owner communication or support channel for the campaign’s actual appointment process. NHTSA says manufacturers may repair or replace a part, refund the purchase price, or, in rare cases, repurchase the vehicle; no R2-specific remedy is established here.
- Keep the notice and appointment details. Save the campaign communication and any confirmation from Rivian or the service provider so you can refer to the exact instructions and repair arrangement.
If the VIN lookup shows no unrepaired recall
A clean result is useful, but it may not settle a newly announced campaign. NHTSA says some recalls may not yet have all affected VINs identified and added to the lookup; VINs are added continuously. If Rivian has contacted you or you have credible campaign information, follow up with Rivian and check NHTSA again rather than treating an initial no-recall result as definitive.

NHTSA also provides recall and investigation resources. If you have a safety concern that is not listed as a recall, use NHTSA’s safety-problem reporting resources. Reporting a concern is not a substitute for completing a recall remedy.
Do not work on the high-voltage battery yourself
Do not inspect, disconnect, repair, or replace a high-voltage battery pack yourself. Battery-specific safety steps and the repair procedure must come from Rivian’s notice or the official campaign instructions for the affected vehicle. If those instructions are unclear, ask Rivian or the service provider named in the notice before taking action.
