If you can still access the email address linked to your PlayStation Network account, secure that mailbox and then use Sony’s account recovery flow. If the email is inaccessible, or you don’t recognize a change to your sign-in ID, online ID, or password, contact PlayStation Support through its Online Assistant instead. A sign-in failure can have other causes, so use the checks below if your account details appear unchanged.
First, choose the right recovery route
- You control the linked email: Secure it, then try Sony’s self-service recovery steps.
- You cannot access the email, or account details changed without your permission: Go directly to the PlayStation Online Assistant. A reset link sent to an address controlled by someone else will not restore your access.
- You are blocked by 2-step verification (2SV): Use a saved backup code if you have one; otherwise contact Support.
Reach PlayStation Support by typing the official PlayStation website address into your browser or using a trusted bookmark. Do not follow recovery links in unsolicited messages.
Secure the email account linked to PSN
Your email inbox may be able to receive password-reset links for multiple services. If you suspect it was compromised, use a trusted device to recover and secure the mailbox before requesting a PSN reset. Set a strong, unique email password and review the email provider’s account-security options. Sony explains why protecting email and using unique passwords matters in its PlayStation security best practices.

Recover PSN access when you still control the linked email
- Open PlayStation account recovery and go to Account Management.
- Select Trouble Signing In? > Recover Your Account.
- Enter your sign-in ID, which is your email address, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Open the secure email from PlayStation and use its link to continue the recovery process.
- Create a new password. Sony’s password guidance recommends a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters; do not reuse a password from another account.
Sony says the recovery email may take a few minutes to arrive. If it does not arrive, check the mailbox’s spam or junk folder and confirm you entered the correct email address. If you do not control that address or the account information appears to have been changed, use Support rather than relying on self-service recovery.
Contact Support if the account email or details changed
Sony directs users to its Online Assistant if they cannot access or do not remember the email on the account, or if they do not recognize a sign-in ID, online ID, or password change. Its recovery guidance states: “If you don’t recognize a sign-in ID, online ID and/or password change on your account, please contact us using our Online Assistant.” Start from the official PlayStation account recovery page and follow the Support options available for your location.

Be ready to explain that you suspect unauthorized access and which recovery methods are unavailable. Follow the Support flow for any verification information it requests; do not send passwords or verification codes to someone who contacts you unexpectedly.
If 2-step verification is stopping sign-in
PlayStation’s account-security guidance covers 2SV codes delivered by text message or an authenticator app. If you saved a backup code when setting up 2SV, choose Trouble Receiving Code? > Sign In Using a Backup Code at the sign-in prompt and enter one of your saved codes. Sony says it provides ten backup codes when setting up 2SV and each code can be used once. Keep any unused codes somewhere secure.

- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
If you cannot access the phone or authenticator and do not have a usable backup code, contact PlayStation Support. If you receive unexpected 2SV messages and cannot sign in to change your security method, use Support rather than sharing a code with anyone.
After you regain access, end other sessions and secure the account
- In Account Management, open Security > Sign Out on All Devices. Sony’s sign-in and sign-out instructions explain how to sign out remotely.
- Set a new, unique PSN password, or use a passkey if that option is available to you. Keep the PSN password different from your email password.
- Review your sign-in and security settings, including 2SV, and store backup codes securely if you use that method.
- Secure the linked email account as well, so it cannot be used to reset PSN access again.
Do not share account credentials. Sony warns about suspicious direct messages claiming that an account has been reported and QR codes sent by another person. Its security guidance also notes that the Store setting requiring a password at checkout is incompatible with passkeys, so you cannot rely on both controls at once.

Check for purchases you do not recognize
Review your PlayStation transaction history and compare unfamiliar activity with subscription renewals, purchases by family members, or duplicate transactions. Sony provides compromised-account and unauthorized-payment routes through its Account & Security support hub. If your payment card shows activity you did not authorize, contact your card issuer as appropriate. Sony and the issuer determine what remedies are available; a refund or other outcome is not guaranteed.

If your credentials seem correct, check other sign-in problems
A failed sign-in alone does not prove that someone took over your account. If you do not see evidence that the account details changed, Sony’s sign-in troubleshooting guidance suggests checking the sign-in email, updating console system software, trying Account Management online, and restarting the console and router. If online account access fails, check whether suspension guidance applies. The troubleshooting page below is localized for Bulgaria, so available steps and support routes can differ by country.
