If you cannot claim, remember, or open the email address associated with Grok, first identify which account actually signs you in. Grok supports four separate sign-in methods: Login with X, Login with email, Login with Google, and Login with Apple. The recovery steps depend on that original choice. Signing in with a different provider does not automatically merge accounts or transfer a subscription.
Use the same provider you selected when the account was created, then follow the matching recovery path below. The steps reflect official xAI and X guidance reviewed on October 13, 2026; labels and policies can change.
Determine which “Grok email” you mean
People commonly use “my Grok email” to describe two different things:

- An X account email: the address stored on an X account that you use through Login with X.
Google and Apple sign-ins are separate identities as well. If you choose Google, Apple, or email when the account was created, selecting another option later can open a different account rather than the one containing your conversations or subscription.

Use this decision path before trying resets
- Open Grok’s sign-in screen and note which provider you originally used.
- Try that same provider, selecting the intended Google or Apple account if prompted.
- If you chose X, work on the X account rather than trying to “claim” the X email as a new xAI email.
- If you chose email, use the xAI account page to add or change the sign-in address.
- If Apple supplied a private relay address, continue with the original Apple sign-in instead of entering the relay address as a normal email or Google login.
This process authenticates the account belonging to the selected provider. It does not prove that two accounts are linked, and it does not automatically combine identities.
If you use an xAI email login
Change or add the sign-in address
xAI’s account FAQ directs email-login users to accounts.x.ai to update or add a sign-in email. Sign in there with the credentials that still work, locate the account’s email settings, and follow the verification prompts for the new address. A new address is not usable until the required verification is completed.
If you are already signed in to Grok but cannot remember the address, inspect the account or profile information before signing out. Record the address exactly, including spelling, punctuation, and any alias, then update it through the xAI account page.
When the address is an Apple private relay
Apple’s Hide My Email can give an app a private-relay address instead of your ordinary mailbox. xAI warns that a subscription may not be recognized if you type that relay address into a regular email or Google login. Return to Grok and choose Login with Apple, using the same Apple ID that created the account.

Manage the relay address, forwarding, or Apple sign-in details through Apple. Do not create a second Grok account with the relay address just because it resembles an ordinary email; that can leave you in an empty account while the original subscription remains attached to the Apple identity.
If you no longer control the xAI mailbox
First try to recover the mailbox with its email provider. If you can still authenticate to the xAI account by another available method, use accounts.x.ai to replace the address with one you control. If you cannot sign in at all, use xAI’s support channel from the Grok app or grok.com. xAI also lists support@x.ai as a contact address.
Describe the exact sign-in method, the error shown, the address you can no longer access, and any account information support requests. Never send a password, one-time code, recovery code, or Apple verification code to anyone outside the official support process.
If you use Grok through an X account
You are still signed in to X somewhere
An active session is the easiest route. In the X app or website, open your profile menu, choose Settings and privacy, open the account-information section, and edit the email address. X may ask for your password or a confirmation code. Menu names can vary by app version, but the relevant control is the email field in your X account settings.

After the new address is verified, use Login with X in Grok. Changing the X email changes the contact address on that X account; it does not turn the account into a separate xAI email login.
You lost access to the old mailbox
Contact the mailbox provider first. X’s account-recovery guidance says that restoring access to the email account can allow you to receive a password-reset message. Once the mailbox is available, request a new X password if you need one, then sign in with Login with X in Grok.
If the mailbox provider cannot restore the address, do not assume that an email address can simply be claimed by creating it again. Availability, ownership checks, and retained messages are controlled by the provider, while X still treats the original account records as authoritative.

You have a verified mobile number
Go to X’s password-reset page and enter the username, email, or phone number associated with the account. If a verified mobile number is eligible, choose the SMS option and enter the code sent to that phone. X notes that text-message reset is unavailable for accounts enrolled in login verification, so the options shown depend on the account’s security settings.

After resetting the X password, sign in to X, verify or replace the email in account settings, and then return to Grok’s Login with X option.
You cannot remember which email is on the account
- Try the remembered X username and password in the normal X sign-in form.
- Open X’s password-reset flow and submit the username or each plausible email address or phone number.
- Check every corresponding inbox, including junk or spam folders, for the reset message.
- Use the newest reset link. Older links can expire or become invalid after another request.
- Once inside the account, inspect the account-information page to see the current email and update it if necessary.
A username can help identify an account, but it does not by itself establish ownership when X requires email or phone verification.
The account is locked, compromised, or reset attempts fail
Use X’s official account-access or support route. State the precise error, the username, whether you still control the phone or email, and which recovery methods you already tried. If you suspect compromise, mention unexpected password, email, or security changes and follow the security instructions shown by X.

When neither email nor phone verification is available
X’s password-reset guidance says recovery is limited without access to the account’s email address or a verified phone. Its help center states: “Unfortunately, if you don’t have access to the account’s email address or verified mobile number, we are unable to continue troubleshooting.” X may be unable to restore the account, may deactivate it, and does not promise to free the username.
This limitation applies even if you remember the username, old password, or the email address’s text. Those details do not replace a currently available verification channel. You can still submit an official support request, explain what evidence remains, and ask what options are available, but the result depends on the account records and support review.
Troubleshoot the sign-in screen without making a second account
- Wrong provider: Sign out and choose the original button—X, email, Google, or Apple—rather than entering the same address under another provider.
- Wrong Google or Apple identity: On a device with several accounts, select the exact account used at registration. Private browsing or account switching can make the intended identity easier to choose.
- Apple relay confusion: Use Login with Apple; do not use the relay address as a standalone email login.
- No reset message: Confirm the spelling of the address, check spam and filtered folders, and request one fresh link instead of repeatedly opening older messages.
- Unexpected empty profile: You likely authenticated a different provider identity. Sign out and retry the original method before changing settings.
- Security challenge: Complete the challenge only in the official X, xAI, Google, or Apple interface. Never forward its code.
Subscriptions and account identity
A successful login to one provider does not establish that it is the account holding a Grok subscription. Apple-linked subscriptions, X-linked identities, and xAI email accounts can be recorded separately. If a paid plan is missing after you recover access, tell official support which provider was used, the approximate purchase context, and the account you can now access. Public help material does not establish that support will transfer a subscription or make a manual exception; that decision depends on account records.

Protect the account after recovery
- Replace an inaccessible email with a mailbox you control and can recover.
- Keep a verified phone number on the X account if you are comfortable using it for recovery.
- Use a unique password and store it in a reputable password manager.
- Review active sessions, connected apps, and security settings after a compromise.
- Save recovery codes privately; never store them in a public post or send them to a supposed helper.

- Check spam folders and use a current reset link.
- If no email or verified phone is accessible, set expectations: X may not be able to continue recovery.
- Contact only official xAI or X support and never disclose passwords or verification codes.
