First identify where the problem occurs: a page that will not load, a login loop, a rejected password, a missing email or code, and a failed identity check are different issues. Start with low-risk browser and connection checks, then use the portal’s own recovery steps and contact the organization that controls the account or service.
Identify the problem before changing settings
Note what happens and at which step. Does the portal fail to open, return you to the login page, reject your credentials, fail to send a code, or stop at a CAPTCHA or identity check? Record the exact error message if one appears. This helps you choose the right fix and gives support something specific to investigate.
If the portal will not load or keeps returning you to login
Start from the official portal
- Check that your internet connection is working, then reload the page.
- Open the portal by navigating from the organization’s official home page instead of using an old bookmark or saved login link. The New York State Department of Labor cautions users that bookmarked Online Services pages may not work; Singapore’s CPF Board also advises checking the connection and relaunching its site. These are service-specific examples, not guarantees for every portal.
Try a clean browser session
- Open a private or incognito window and try signing in again, or try another up-to-date browser.
- If the portal still loops back to login or hangs, clear cookies and cached data for that site if your browser offers that option, then restart the browser and try again.
Course Hero recommends browser troubleshooting for a login redirect, while the New York State Department of Labor and Login.gov provide session or cache-related advice for their own services. Private browsing and cookie deletion can remove saved site state or sign you out, so avoid clearing all browser data unless necessary.

Change security or privacy settings only when relevant
Some portals need cookies to keep a sign-in session. CAPTCHA or embedded verification may also be affected by a VPN, proxy, ad blocker, or third-party-cookie setting. Login.gov and OPA.mil describe such factors for their own verification flows; those requirements do not automatically apply to a course or jobs portal.

Check the target service’s help instructions before changing settings. If those instructions suggest testing without a VPN, proxy, or blocker, disable it only temporarily for that test and restore it afterward. Do not turn off security protections globally as a routine fix.
If you are not receiving an email or verification code
For a missing confirmation email
- Check spam or junk mail.
- If your email is forwarded, check the original mailbox as well as the forwarding destination.
- Confirm that you entered the intended email address. After checking the destination and address, use the portal’s option to request another email if available.
These steps are consistent with Login.gov’s guidance for its account emails. A different portal may use a different delivery process, so follow its instructions.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
For a missing or rejected code
Check that the email address or phone number on the account is correct and that you entered the current code accurately. A phone service limitation or temporary technical issue can also interfere with account verification. Login.gov identifies these as possible issues in its own process; for another service, use that portal’s recovery steps rather than assuming the cause is the same.
Avoid repeatedly requesting codes without checking the destination and contact details first. If the portal provides a resend or recovery option, follow its stated timing and instructions.

If CAPTCHA or identity verification fails
Use the portal’s own verification help, because requirements differ by service. For example, Login.gov recommends using the same device and browser for its reCAPTCHA checks and suggests trying an updated or different browser or clearing cache. Its guidance also identifies VPNs and ad blockers as possible factors in that specific flow.
A CAPTCHA problem is not necessarily a password problem, and a successful sign-in does not necessarily resolve an identity or eligibility check owned by the course provider, employer, or agency. If basic browser steps do not help, note the exact verification step and contact the organization responsible for it.

Check whether the service itself is having an outage
Look for a status page linked from the portal’s official site or help center. Login.gov’s account guidance directs its users to its status page, but that does not establish an outage for any other course or jobs portal. If no status page is available, support can tell you whether the issue is known.
Contact the organization that can fix the issue
Use contact details reached from the official portal. A separate sign-in provider may handle authentication, while the school, training provider, employer, or government agency controls course access, application status, eligibility, or account records. Login.gov, for instance, directs agency-account questions to the agency and says it cannot sign in or manage accounts for users.
