If a delivery photo exposes your street number, a view into your home, valuables, or an entry point, save the delivery details and contact the retailer or carrier through its official channel. Ask specifically whether the image can be removed from customer-facing access, replaced, or referred to its privacy team. A photo appearing in a delivery record does not by itself prove a security breach, and removal is not guaranteed.
What to do first
- Save the details. Keep the order confirmation, tracking number, delivery date, and a screenshot or copy of the notification. Note exactly what the image reveals, such as a visible address, an interior view, valuables, or an access point.
- Contact the service that controls the delivery record. Use the retailer’s or delivery service’s official app, website, or published phone number—not contact details in an unexpected message.
- Make a specific request. Ask whether the image can be removed from customer-facing access, replaced, or escalated to the company’s privacy team. Ask what controls are available and what happens to the image. These are requests, not guaranteed outcomes.
- Keep a record of the response. Save the case number and any reply so you can follow up with the organization responsible for the record.
Which organization to contact depends on who controls the image: the retailer or delivery platform, an independent seller, or the carrier. If more than one organization handled the order, ask support to identify the party responsible for the delivery record.
If the delivery involved USPS
For a USPS privacy question, complaint, or suspected privacy violation, USPS lists privacy@usps.gov as its dedicated contact. USPS’s privacy policy says a customer who has provided personal information may ask to review information USPS maintains and request correction or deletion of inaccurate information. That policy language is not a promise to erase an accurate delivery photograph.
If the photo shows the wrong home or the package is missing
Handle the delivery problem separately from the image-privacy request. Amazon’s U.S. guidance for a package marked delivered recommends checking the address in Your Orders, the delivery notice and photo, delivery instructions, nearby locations, household members, and neighbors. It also suggests checking with the carrier.

- Check the order address and delivery instructions.
- Review the delivery notification and photo, and check nearby safe locations.
- Ask household members or neighbors whether they received or moved the package.
- For an Amazon order marked delivered before it arrives, wait 48 hours; Amazon says a package may be scanned before it reaches you.
- If it is still missing, follow Amazon’s support steps. For a third-party seller order, contact the seller when applicable. For an order shipped by Amazon, Amazon says to contact Customer Service within 30 days of the expected delivery date.

Can the company be required to delete the photo?
The reviewed official guidance does not establish a universal deletion right, a standard retention period, or a removal deadline for ordinary delivery photos. The answer depends on the service, its policies, and applicable local law. Ask the company what options it offers and whether it can limit customer-facing access, but do not assume that a request will result in deletion.

The FTC’s 48-hour removal information concerns covered platforms and nonconsensual intimate images under the Take It Down Act. It does not create a 48-hour removal rule for a photo showing a house, address, or belongings.
When to take account-security steps
A delivery photo exposure alone does not show that someone stole your identity or accessed your account. If the delivery was unexpected, or you see other signs of account misuse, take steps appropriate to those indicators. The FTC advises people dealing with a suspected brushing scam to change online shopping account passwords, contact the marketplace about a suspicious seller, monitor credit reports, and report suspected scams. Its August 2026 alert recommends checking credit weekly for free at AnnualCreditReport.com in that context. The FTC also warns that QR codes in unexpected packages can lead to phishing sites.

For an unexpected package or suspected brushing scam, see the FTC consumer alert and its brushing-scam guidance. Don’t scan a QR code or follow a link in an unexpected-package notice unless you can verify it through the company’s official site or app.
