Page 2 replaces the posts already on screen when Inertia treats the paginated posts prop as a normal page prop instead of a configured infinite-scroll prop—or when the server adapter, client component, and pagination metadata do not match. Inertia v2’s documented Laravel setup uses Inertia::scroll() on the server and an <InfiniteScroll data="posts"> wrapper on the client. Check the installed Inertia version and adapter before copying that syntax: the v2 documentation notes that v3 is now the default.
Why Page 2 replaces the existing posts
A regular prop update can replace the previous value with the newly returned page. Infinite scrolling needs the server-side prop to be configured for merging so Inertia can combine the incoming page with the existing collection. Inertia v2 documents Inertia::scroll() as the helper for configuring this behavior and normalizing pagination metadata.
Two commonly used visit options solve different problems. preserveState retains local page-component state, while preserveScroll retains the browser’s scroll position. Neither one concatenates paginated records. Appending is a prop-merge behavior, not a side effect of preserving component state or viewport position.
Check the Inertia version and server adapter
Start by identifying the installed client package, server adapter, and their versions. The infinite-scroll API and examples are version- and adapter-dependent. The Inertia v2 guide documents a Laravel example, but its page warns that v3 is now the default, so do not assume the v2 syntax applies unchanged to another setup. Compare your implementation with the documentation for the versions actually installed: Inertia v2 Infinite Scroll and current Inertia documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Configure the server prop for infinite scrolling
In the documented Inertia v2 Laravel pattern, wrap the paginated result with Inertia::scroll() when returning the page props:
'posts' => Inertia::scroll(Post::paginate(...))
The helper configures the merge behavior and provides pagination metadata for the client. If you return a custom pagination payload rather than a supported paginator, check the installed adapter’s API for the appropriate wrapper and metadata provider; a custom structure may not supply the page information the component needs.

Match the client component to the returned prop
The name passed to the component must match the server prop key, and the rendered list must use the corresponding data shape. For a server prop named posts, the v2 pattern is:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
<InfiniteScroll data="posts">
{posts.data.map(post => /* render post */)}
</InfiniteScroll>
The official example similarly binds the component to its users prop and renders users.data. A mismatch—for example, configuring the component for one key while returning or rendering another—can prevent the intended scroll behavior from applying to the list.

Verify pagination metadata and the page parameter
Infinite scrolling needs enough pagination information to know which page comes next. Inspect the Inertia response for the posts prop and its pagination fields, then confirm the request triggered near the list’s end changes the expected page parameter. If you use a custom paginator, verify that the current, next, and previous page information—and the page parameter name, if customized—are supplied through the metadata API supported by your adapter. The v2 guide describes the helper’s pagination handling: Infinite Scroll documentation.
Reset the collection when filters change
When a filter or search query changes, the old posts may belong to a different result set. Continuing to merge pages can leave unrelated results in the list. Reset the scroll data when starting the new filtered result set so its first page replaces the old collection rather than appending to it. See the version-specific resetting guidance.

Debug in this order
- Inspect the response: confirm the response contains the expected posts prop and pagination fields.
- Check server merge configuration: make sure the paginated prop uses the scroll helper or the equivalent supported by your installed adapter and version.
- Check the client binding: verify that
<InfiniteScroll data="posts">refers to the same key returned by the server and that the list renders the matching data structure. - Check pagination requests: confirm the next-page request uses the expected page parameter and that the metadata identifies the next page correctly.
- Check filter resets: when filters change, reset the scroll data instead of merging results from the previous query.
- Compare installed versions: if the preceding checks pass but records still replace rather than append, verify that the client and server adapter versions are compatible and use the documentation for those versions.
Partial reloads can also merge returned props with existing client props, but that general behavior is distinct from configuring a paginated prop for infinite scroll. The visit and partial-reload guides explain those separate mechanisms: Visits and Partial Reloads. A GitHub report titled “Infinite Scrolling and merge props not working as expected” describes one reported case; it is not evidence that every replacement issue has the same cause: GitHub issue report.
