If your iPhone 18 Pro seems to lose charge faster than your iPhone 16 Pro, compare them under similar use and check Settings > Battery on each. Look for unusual app or background activity, low-signal periods, recent setup or update tasks, and Battery Health status. A faster drop by itself does not prove the 18 Pro is defective or that it should always outlast the 16 Pro.

Compare similar days before changing settings

A battery percentage is only useful in context: a day of navigation, video, or weak cellular coverage is not comparable to a quieter day. Apple says runtime varies with usage, configuration, network, and signal strength. Compare the phones over the same period and roughly similar workloads, including screen-on time, major apps, cellular conditions, software recency, and Power Mode.

  1. On each phone, open Settings > Battery.
  2. Compare Daily Usage with that phone’s recent days. iOS indicates whether current use is higher, similar, or lower than usual and highlights leading apps or system tasks.
  3. Tap View All Battery Usage to inspect additional days and details.

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro specifications describe testing conducted in July 2026 with preproduction devices and software; that manufacturer testing is not a controlled comparison of your two phones. The specifications also caution that actual battery life varies: Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro technical specifications.

Find which apps or system activity are using charge

In Battery settings, review App and System Activity Usage and tap entries for more detail. iOS can distinguish on-screen from background activity and identify contributors such as notifications or cellular coverage. Background work can include directions, music playback, photo syncing, or mail fetching.

  • If activity is mostly in the background, consider whether that work is expected, such as photo syncing or navigation.
  • If notifications are prominent, review notification settings for the apps involved.

Target the app or activity the battery screen identifies rather than resetting or changing many settings at once. Apple explains the usage and health screens in its iPhone battery usage and health guide.

Check whether setup or an iOS update is still running tasks

If the drain started after migrating data, setting up the phone, or installing an update, look in Battery for an Insight such as Ongoing Device Setup or Ongoing iOS Update. Some background work continues after the phone is usable. Apple advises waiting a few days after an update and checking again; this is a possible temporary cause, not a guarantee that every case will resolve on its own.

Look at signal, brightness, and display settings

Apple identifies No Mobile Coverage and Low Signal as battery-consuming conditions. Compare the phones in similar locations and on similar cellular conditions; a device struggling to connect can use more power. Apple also notes that high screen brightness consumes significant energy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • If Battery identifies brightness as an issue, consider Auto-Brightness.
  • If it identifies display wake or idle behavior, consider Auto-Lock.
  • Apple says 5G Auto can switch to LTE when 5G does not provide a noticeably better experience.

These are checks to make when the usage screen or your comparison points to them, not proof that any one setting explains the difference.

Review Adaptive Power and Low Power Mode

With iOS 26 or later, Apple lists both iPhone 18 Pro models and iPhone 16 models as compatible with Adaptive Power. On either phone, check Settings > Battery > Power Mode. Adaptive Power is off by default on iPhone 16 models. It needs at least seven days to learn charging habits, so its behavior may differ between a new iPhone 16 setup and a phone that has been used longer.

When active, Adaptive Power can make small brightness reductions, limit background activity, and enable Low Power Mode at 20%. It may help extend charge, but it is not a guaranteed fix or the only possible reason for a difference. See Apple’s Adaptive Power guidance.

Low Power Mode is a temporary option when you need more time before charging. Apple says it reduces or disables some features, including Mail fetch, Hey Siri, Background App Refresh, and some visual effects. It can change how the phone behaves, so use it as a power-saving measure rather than a diagnostic conclusion.

Check Battery Health and know when to seek service

On iPhone 15 and later, including these models, open Settings > Battery > Battery Health. Apple says this screen can show battery health, cycle count, manufacture date, and first-use date. A low charge percentage during the day is not the same thing as a Battery Health assessment.

If the screen displays Service, Apple advises considering battery service. If the drain remains unexplained after checking activity, signal, recent setup or updates, and health status, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Apple advises having an iPhone battery serviced or recycled by Apple or an authorized provider; do not open the phone or attempt a battery replacement yourself. See Apple’s battery-drain troubleshooting guidance.

What this comparison can—and cannot—show

These checks can help identify why one phone uses more charge on particular days, but the title’s comparison alone cannot establish a hardware fault. The cited Apple support and specification pages provide general troubleshooting and test context; they do not establish a specific iPhone 18 Pro battery defect, repair program, or universal runtime advantage over iPhone 16 Pro. Base the next step on the phones’ usage details and Battery Health, and use Apple service channels if the problem persists.
