Before buying a OnePlus phone, verify the exact regional model, its remaining software support, warranty terms for that seller and country, and eligibility with your intended carrier. A matching band list alone does not guarantee that calling, 5G, eSIM, Wi-Fi calling, or other carrier features will work.
Identify the exact model and seller first
A product-family name is not enough to check support. Regional variants of a phone can have different network bands, carrier approvals, warranty coverage, or service options. Before paying, record the full model identifier and region shown on the listing or device label.

- Identify the seller of record and whether it is an authorized sales channel.
- For a used or refurbished phone, establish whether the original receipt is available and who, if anyone, provides warranty coverage.
- For an imported phone, confirm the model’s intended region, unlock status, and return terms if your carrier rejects its IMEI.
Check the warranty that actually applies
Warranty coverage depends on the purchase channel, territory, and applicable terms—not simply on the OnePlus name. Under OnePlus’s US warranty policy, phones purchased on OnePlus.com have a limited warranty of one year from delivery, redeemable only in the original purchase country or region. Separate US terms describe limited warranty coverage for eligible purchases through OnePlus or authorized channels and restrict coverage to the original purchaser. These US terms should not be treated as universal rules for other countries.

OnePlus says a claim may require original proof of purchase, model and serial details, and evidence of the defect. Its US policy describes covered defects in workmanship or materials and lists exclusions that include accidents, misuse, ordinary wear, some unauthorized accessories or service, signal reception or transmission issues, and products not purchased through OnePlus.com. Check the warranty document for the phone’s actual country and sales channel rather than assuming those US provisions apply elsewhere.
Questions to settle before purchase
- Who is the seller of record, and is the purchase channel eligible for the manufacturer’s warranty?
- Which country or region’s warranty applies, and where would a repair be handled?
- Does coverage apply to you as the original purchaser, or does it transfer to a later owner?
- Is the original receipt available, and who pays shipping or other repair costs?
- Is a retailer return policy or optional protection plan being confused with the manufacturer’s limited warranty?
OnePlus lists protection-service plans with model and other eligibility conditions. Confirm availability and terms for the exact phone and buyer at checkout; do not assume a plan is offered for every model, region, or purchaser.
Find the remaining software-support period
OnePlus’s Product Security Update Period page states a minimum of three years of security updates for smartphones and tablets following launch. That general minimum is not a model-specific promise of three years of Android-version upgrades. Check the phone’s own support policy for the promised major Android or OxygenOS upgrades, security-update duration, and any published end date.
Compare the support still remaining, not only the number of years promised when the device launched. A newly purchased used or refurbished phone may already be partway through its support period. Also check the region and carrier variant: OnePlus says update rollouts are distributed in batches, with timing varying by model, country, and carrier; carrier-exclusive schedules are determined by the carrier. See its software update information for details.

It also says, “Existing OnePlus devices will keep getting the software updates, security patches, and after-sales support.” The notice ties support to applicable warranty and support obligations; it is not a guarantee beyond those terms.
Verify carrier compatibility with the exact device
Start with the country and carrier you plan to use, then check what you need from the phone: ordinary voice service, domestic roaming, 5G, Wi-Fi calling, hotspot, eSIM, or particular coverage areas. Compare the exact regional model’s LTE and 5G bands with the carrier’s requirements, but treat overlap as one check rather than proof of full compatibility.
As one model- and region-specific example, OnePlus’s US OnePlus 15 specifications list LTE FDD bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28/30/32/66/71 and LTE TDD bands 34/38/39/40/41/42/48, as well as 5G NR bands. Those are not universal specifications for all OnePlus phones or regional variants.
- Get the model identifier and IMEI. Confirm they correspond to the unit being sold, not just the phone family in the listing.
- Check carrier eligibility. Run the IMEI through the carrier’s current bring-your-own-device (BYOD) checker before purchase when possible. T-Mobile recommends checking eligibility and says it cannot guarantee functionality or performance for non-T-Mobile devices; see its BYOD guide.
- Confirm important features with the carrier. Ask whether the exact model supports the voice service, 5G, Wi-Fi calling, eSIM, hotspot, and roaming features you need on that network.
- Keep a way to return it. For a marketplace or international variant, get confirmation of unlock status and a return option if the carrier does not accept the IMEI.
A band list does not establish that a handset is unlocked, has a clean IMEI, is approved or provisioned by the carrier, or will receive every local service. Compatibility can depend on the exact model, carrier approval, configuration, and service.

Check repair access and compare offers
Before relying on manufacturer service, check the latest repair eligibility, shipping instructions, costs, and availability in your country. OnePlus’s US support and repair page includes a September 2026 notice about transitioning repair service to a center in Union City, California. That US service information may not describe arrangements in another country.
When weighing two models or sellers, compare the same decision points for each offer:
- Exact regional model and carrier IMEI eligibility.
- Supported bands and the carrier features you need.
- Remaining security and major OS support.
- Warranty provider, territory, duration, and transferability.
- Repair access and likely logistics.
- Seller, price, and return terms.
Do not rank a phone or seller on these points without checking the specific model and offer. A low price does not make a device a good value if carrier acceptance, remaining updates, warranty coverage, or repair access is unsuitable.
