Before buying a discounted Lenovo Legion Go S, verify the exact model, processor, operating system, memory, storage, condition, included charger, warranty and return terms. “Legion Go S” covers different configurations, so a discount is meaningful only when you compare like with like—and confirm the unit suits the games and software you use.
Identify the exact Legion Go S configuration
Start with the model number or machine type in the listing. Lenovo’s product-family pages can cover more than one configuration, and specifications, warranty and included items may vary by model and country. Match the seller’s model code to Lenovo’s official product information and the relevant PSREF model references.
- Processor: Check whether the unit has an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme or Ryzen Z2 Go. Do not use a price or performance result for one processor to judge the other.
- Operating system: Confirm whether it ships with SteamOS or Windows 11. Lenovo’s US listing for model 83N6000GUS identifies SteamOS, a Z1 Extreme processor, a microSD reader and a 65W charger; those details should not be assumed for every Legion Go S listing.
- Memory and storage: Verify the actual RAM and SSD capacities. Lenovo describes configurations up to 32GB RAM and up to 1TB storage, but a particular listing may have less. Treat the listed RAM as the unit’s capacity rather than assuming it can be upgraded.
Record those details before comparing prices. If the seller omits a model code or configuration detail, ask for it rather than inferring it from the product name or photos.

SteamOS and Windows suit different needs. Lenovo describes SteamOS features such as Steam library access, cloud saves and Remote Play. Its SteamOS user guide explains Gaming Mode and Desktop Mode; Desktop Mode supports tasks such as browsing and office work. A reviewer found SteamOS easier to navigate as a handheld interface, while noting that people who want fewer OS restrictions may prefer Windows.

Before choosing, check current compatibility for the games and launchers you rely on, including any titles with anti-cheat requirements. Also consider whether you need Windows-only applications or prefer the Steam handheld interface. Game and software support can change, so a general claim that one OS supports every title—or is universally better—would be unreliable.
Understand the hardware and its limits
Lenovo’s CES 2025 announcement lists family specifications including an 8-inch WUXGA touchscreen in a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 120Hz refresh rate, a 55.5Wh battery, a 730g weight, two USB4 ports, Wi-Fi 6E and a microSD reader. These are announced family specifications; check the exact regional configuration and listing for what applies to the unit you are considering. Lenovo also names a Legion Go S screen protector, but verify fit and availability before adding it to your budget.

For a used or open-box handheld, inspect the display for scratches and dead pixels, test touch response, and check buttons, joysticks, triggers and USB-C ports. A microSD reader can provide an expansion option, but confirm compatibility for the specific model before buying a card. If you expect to connect a display or peripherals, check the accessories’ USB-C power-delivery requirements and compatibility rather than assuming any charger or dock will work as intended.
Check condition, included items and seller protections
Identify whether the offer is new, open-box, refurbished or used, and read the seller’s grading description. For used or open-box devices, ask for clear photos and, if possible, confirmation that the controls, touchscreen, ports, speakers and charger have been checked. Confirm whether the original or a compatible 65W USB-C charger and cable are included; the cited US 83N6000GUS configuration lists a 65W charger, but packages can differ.

- Confirm what is included: charger, cable, packaging, receipt and any advertised accessories.
- For a used unit, request the serial number and check Lenovo’s warranty lookup for remaining coverage in your country. Warranty terms can differ among models and territories; Lenovo PSREF references show that coverage should not be assumed to be identical across the family.
- Read the seller’s condition and warranty terms, since a retailer’s policy may affect the practical value of a lower price.
Compare the complete deal, not the discount percentage
Compare offers only after matching processor, operating system, RAM, storage, condition and included accessories. Then account for warranty coverage, return flexibility and any missing charger or other item you would need to buy. No current official US retail listing was published, so a historical launch price or old discount is not a dependable current benchmark. Check live offers from sellers in your region and compare the exact model codes.

Keep performance and battery reports in context
Tom’s Guide’s June 27, 2025 review tested a SteamOS/Z1 Extreme unit with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage and contrasted it with a Windows/Z2 Go unit with 16GB RAM. Because processor, memory and operating system differed, its game results are not a controlled comparison of SteamOS against Windows alone.
In a demanding Doom: The Dark Ages test on the SteamOS/Z1 Extreme unit, the reviewer reported a battery warning after about an hour and a half at 1200p, Performance mode and 30W TDP, and noted loud fans. That is one reviewer’s result under stated conditions, not a guaranteed runtime or noise level for every Legion Go S. Settings, workload and configuration affect battery life.
