A campaign report says a Times Square promotion around New York City’s 2026 St. Patrick’s Day Parade offered people $10 in USA₮ after they scanned a postcard QR code and downloaded Rumble Wallet. The account describes a way to try a digital dollar, but it does not provide independently measured transaction times or verified redemption results.
How the Times Square USA₮ promotion reportedly worked
A March 18, 2026 press release from TechnologyWire, republished by InfoWorld and labeled “Sponsored by TechnologyWire,” described the activation as a QR-based offer: “Scan. Download. Receive.” People were directed to scan a postcard, download Rumble Wallet, and claim $10 in USAT. The campaign account said the activation began at 10 a.m. ET and ran until 11:59 p.m. ET during St. Patrick’s Day activity in Times Square and along the parade route. The release said brand ambassadors would distribute 25,000 promotional postcards. That is the quantity organizers said they planned to hand out, not an audited count of postcards distributed or people who completed a claim. The account does not publish transaction records, successful claim totals, participant counts, payment volume, failure rates, or other independently verified results.
What USA₮ is—and who issues it
Tether announced USA₮ on January 27, 2026, naming Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A. as its issuer. Tether describes USA₮ as a dollar-backed digital token designed to operate within the GENIUS Act framework. These are the issuer’s descriptions, not evidence that USA₮ is a government currency or a bank deposit. Tether’s USA₮ launch announcement.
Tether’s announcement also states that USA₮ is not legal tender; is not issued, backed, approved, or guaranteed by the U.S. government; and is not covered by FDIC, SIPC, or other government-agency insurance. A dollar reference or dollar backing should not be confused with government issuance or deposit insurance.

Why Rumble Wallet was part of the claim flow
Tether described Rumble Wallet in a January 7, 2026 announcement as a self-custodial crypto wallet integrated into Rumble. At launch, Tether said it supported USDT, XAUT, and Bitcoin, with USA₮ expected “in the coming weeks.” That earlier announcement establishes the planned sequence, but not the exact date USA₮ support became active, whether it was available to every person at the promotion, or whether participants successfully claimed the offer. “Self-custodial” is Tether’s product description: it indicates that the wallet is intended to put control of crypto assets with the user rather than a custodian. The announcement is not an independent security audit or a guarantee of recovery, safety, or uninterrupted access. Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, said the wallet would give users “more control than any platform has offered before.” That is his promotional view, not a verified comparative finding. Were the payments actually instant?
The campaign framed the giveaway as a live demonstration of digital-dollar payments. Bo Hines, identified in the campaign press release as CEO of Tether USAT, said: “We are not just running ads, we are handing people the future of money and letting them use it on the spot.” That quotation expresses the campaign’s pitch; it does not establish how quickly a transaction settled.
The campaign account provides no independently measured transaction-time data, network details, completion records, or redemption success rate. It therefore supports saying that organizers promoted an instant-payment experience, not that the event proved payments were instant. The evidence also does not establish that recipients used USA₮ to pay a merchant or that the promotion tested a complete payment-and-redemption journey.

What the promotion does—and does not—show
- It describes an intended claim path: scan a QR code, download Rumble Wallet, and claim $10 in USA₮, according to the campaign press release.
- It reports an organizer-stated distribution plan: 25,000 postcards, without independent confirmation of how many were handed out or redeemed.
- It does not establish campaign outcomes: the published account contains no independently verified figures for downloads, claims, payments, or transaction speed.
- It is not a like-for-like payment comparison: the account supplies no comparable data on fees, settlement, failures, redemption, custody, or consumer protections for alternative payment products.
