SUSE AI Factory with NVIDIA is a Rancher-based platform for assembling, deploying, managing and governing AI applications across workstations, data centers, public clouds and edge sites. It combines SUSE’s infrastructure and management capabilities with NVIDIA AI software and preconfigured application blueprints. SUSE presents it as a way to retain control over where AI data, models and operations run; that control depends on how an organization deploys and governs the system, not on the product name alone.
What is SUSE AI Factory with NVIDIA?
It is an application and blueprint management layer built around SUSE Rancher. The product is intended to help teams discover AI applications, assemble them into immutable, version-controlled blueprints, and promote those applications through deployment environments. SUSE distinguishes this layer from SUSE AI’s broader infrastructure and security foundation: in its documentation, the relationship is summarized as an infrastructure platform plus an application platform.
The NVIDIA edition brings NVIDIA AI Enterprise software into that platform. The launch description names NVIDIA NIM inference microservices, NeMo model-customization tools, Run:ai GPU optimization, and GPU, Network and NIM operators. It also adds NVIDIA-validated RAG and AI-Q blueprints.
What does the “enterprise sovereignty gap” mean?
Data residency—keeping information in a particular country or facility—is only one part of control. An organization may also need to determine which infrastructure runs its models, where proprietary data is processed, who can operate the system, and how changes are governed and audited. SUSE frames this broader set of requirements as AI sovereignty.

The factory is designed to support that control by running across private infrastructure and air-gapped edge locations as well as public cloud, with policy enforcement, zero-trust controls and auditability among the stated capabilities. This is a deployment approach, not an automatic guarantee of sovereignty: organizations still have to choose suitable locations, configure access and policies, and verify that their operational and legal requirements are met.
How the platform is put together

|---|---|
| SUSE AI Factory with NVIDIA | Rancher extension and Kubernetes operator for discovering AI applications and composing immutable, version-controlled blueprints, according to SUSE’s comparison documentation. |
| SUSE Rancher Prime | Management layer intended to provide consistency across workstations, data centers and air-gapped edge environments. |
| NVIDIA AI Enterprise | Enterprise AI software integrated into the NVIDIA variant, as described in SUSE’s launch materials. |
| NIM and NeMo | NVIDIA inference microservices and model-customization tooling named in the launch description. |
| Run:ai and NVIDIA operators | Run:ai supports GPU utilization optimization; the named GPU, Network and NIM operators support components of the NVIDIA software stack. |
| Blueprints and supply-chain information | The launch description identifies RAG and AI-Q research-agent blueprints and says blueprints include a software bill of materials and are validated across the Linux kernel, GPU drivers and application frameworks. |
How teams are expected to use it
Prototype and compose an application
SUSE describes a UI-driven “ClickOps” starting point for prototyping. Teams can use the available blueprints to assemble an application with the NVIDIA components it needs, rather than beginning with an entirely bespoke integration.
Promote the configuration through GitOps
Once a prototype is ready to standardize, the intended path is declarative GitOps automation. Versioned blueprints provide a way to track and promote configurations across environments. The product’s stated lifecycle scope reaches beyond the model and application to Kubernetes, operating systems, GPU drivers and operators.

Rancher Prime is positioned as the consistent management layer from developer workstation and core data center to public cloud and tactical or air-gapped edge. SUSE also documents full production support for NVIDIA Jetson on SUSE Linux Micro and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES). That support statement applies to those SUSE operating systems and the Jetson platform; it does not mean every blueprint or deployment is automatically suitable for every edge device.

Which operational gaps is it designed to address?
Connecting AI engineers and platform teams
AI and machine-learning engineers can prototype locally, while platform engineers standardize the environment, version configurations and manage promotion to broader deployments. The aim is to reduce handoffs that otherwise leave local experiments difficult to reproduce or operate at scale.
Keeping deployments consistent across locations
A shared management approach can help teams apply common practices across data centers and edge sites, including locations with limited or no network connectivity. That breadth can support regional compliance needs and workloads that must stay close to their data, but the organization must still determine whether a specific placement satisfies its obligations.
Extending operations beyond the model
SUSE describes lifecycle management from models and applications down through clusters, operating systems, drivers and operators. It also says the platform provides observability into application behavior, GPU use and token throughput. These are useful operational dimensions, but the cited product materials do not provide independent measurements of resulting performance improvements.

What blueprints and support are identified?
At launch, SUSE identifies two blueprint families based on NVIDIA AI blueprints: retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and AI-Q research agents. SUSE says planned future additions will address physical AI, edge computing and telecommunications; those are future areas, not launch availability established by the announcement.

SUSE’s comparison documentation describes a unified support model for the NVIDIA variant: SUSE handles Level 1 and Level 2 support for embedded NVIDIA components, with NVIDIA providing Level 3 escalation. Organizations evaluating the offering should confirm the applicable support terms for their contract and deployment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What do the cited numbers establish?
SUSE’s Cloud and AI Survey says 59% of organizations explicitly prioritize hybrid infrastructure for AI workloads. The cited page does not state the survey year, so the figure should not be treated as a current-year result.
IDC FutureScape: Worldwide AI and Automation 2026 Predictions, published in 2025, forecasts that 60% of Global 2000 enterprises will operate AI factories as core AI infrastructure by 2028, and that AI deployment will be five times faster for those organizations. This is a forecast, not a measured result for SUSE AI Factory with NVIDIA or a guarantee of customer outcomes.
Quick Recap
What should an enterprise verify before adopting it?
- Control requirements: Define which data, models and operations must remain under organizational control, and test whether the proposed deployment locations and access policies meet those requirements.
- Blueprint fit: Check whether the launch blueprints address the intended workload, or whether substantial customization is needed.
- Lifecycle integration: Validate how the desired GitOps process, cluster management, operating systems, GPU drivers and operators fit the organization’s existing practices.
- Disconnected operations: For air-gapped or tactical-edge use, verify which components can be installed, updated, monitored and supported without continuous connectivity.
- Support boundaries: Confirm the contracted responsibilities and escalation route for SUSE and NVIDIA components.
- Outcome evidence: Set workload-specific acceptance criteria for throughput, GPU utilization, reliability, operating effort and cost. The cited primary materials do not publish independent customer benchmarks, measured speedups or ROI figures for the product.
