You can add cash to your Chime account at participating Walgreens and Duane Reade locations without a fee. Chime also lists Walmart, 7-Eleven, Speedway, Dollar General, Family Dollar, CVS, and other retail partners; fees and participation vary by location. Use the Chime app’s Cash Map to find a specific store before you go. Cash deposits cannot be made at ATMs.
Stores that accept Chime cash deposits
Chime lists these retail partners for cash deposits. The list is a network-level guide, not confirmation that every branch participates. Check the specific address in the app before traveling.

How to find a nearby participating store
- Open the Chime app and tap Move > Deposit cash > See locations near me.
- Review the locations shown for your area. Use the Cash Map filters for fee-free locations, higher limits, barcode acceptance, or stores open now.
- Check the displayed fee and any location details. Retailers can set their own fees and limits, so confirm the terms with the cashier before handing over cash.
How to deposit cash at the store
Use the in-app barcode
- Bring your cash and phone to a participating store that accepts barcode deposits.
- In the app, tap Move > Deposit cash > View barcode.
- Ask the cashier to scan the barcode and accept the cash. You do not need a physical card at a participating barcode location.
Use your physical card
Some participating locations accept deposits using a physical Chime card. Chime’s instructions say to swipe the card; partner stores do not accept chip or manual-entry transactions for this deposit method. See Chime’s deposit instructions for current details.

Chime says the retailer’s acceptance initiates the transfer. Its general instructions say cash deposits typically post to Checking within two hours, but timing can vary; check the app for the status of your deposit.
Fees, deposit limits, and ID requirements
- Fees: Walgreens and Duane Reade are listed as fee-free. Chime says fees at other retail partners typically range from $3 to $5 per transaction, with the retailer setting the amount. Confirm the fee at the register before completing the deposit.
- Chime limits: Chime lists a maximum of $3,000 per transaction, $3,000 total per day, five deposits per day, and $10,000 per month. These limits apply across accounts and deposit methods combined. Chime says the daily limit resets at midnight Mountain Standard Time.
- Store limits: A retailer may impose a lower transaction cap than Chime’s limit.
- Identification: A store may ask for government-issued ID for a larger deposit. Chime gives a Walgreens deposit over $300 as an example.
These limits and typical fees are Chime’s published guidance; a particular store’s fee, cap, and requirements may differ. Check the app and ask the location before starting the transaction. Chime’s current help page has the published limits.

Where the deposit goes if you have Chime Card
Barcode and debit-card cash deposits go into Checking. If you have Chime Card, funds are automatically moved to the Chime Card Secured Deposit Account (SDA). A deposit made using the Chime Card goes first to the Chime Card account and then to the SDA. A cash deposit is not a payment toward a Chime Card balance due. See Chime’s explanation of the Secured Deposit Account.
Can you deposit cash at a Chime ATM?
No. Chime says cash deposits must be made at participating retail locations, not ATMs. Use the app’s Cash Map to locate a store that accepts the deposit method you plan to use. See Chime’s deposit instructions and its ATM cash deposit guidance.
