At TIME’s Chicago Impact Dinner on October 1, 2026, four speakers urged audiences to center survivors, draw on lived experience, and speak up when they witness abuse. The event, presented by The Allstate Foundation, featured Donna Ferrato, Tommi Vincent, Troy Vincent, and Ashley Judd, according to an AOL recap published October 2, 2026.
Who spoke at the TIME Impact Dinner?
AOL reported that TIME held the dinner in Chicago under the theme “Empowering Survivors: Building Strong Futures Together.” The four speakers brought perspectives as an activist and photojournalist, a survivor and author, an NFL executive with personal family experience, and a humanitarian and actor.
- Donna Ferrato, photojournalist and activist.
- Tommi Vincent, author and speaker and president of family lifestyle brand Vincent Country.
- Troy Vincent, Tommi’s husband and the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations.
- Ashley Judd, humanitarian, activist, and actor.
What did Donna Ferrato say about survivor leadership?
Ferrato honored her mother, whom she described as a survivor and inspiration, and recalled making photographs about domestic violence. She argued that survivors should lead efforts to address abuse: “Survivors are the ones who lead this movement.”
She also urged people to break silence: “Let’s break the silence,” she said. “Let’s be outspoken. Praise these survivors.” The AOL recap connects Ferrato’s well-known photograph “Behind Closed Doors” with Elisabeth Lindberg, previously identified publicly under the pseudonym Lisa, and reports that Lindberg later shared her story.

How did the Vincents connect lived experience with support?
Tommi Vincent described herself as a survivor and said she wants people to talk openly about abuse without normalizing abusive behavior. “I am a thriving domestic violence survivor on a mission to normalize the conversation, not the behavior,” she said.
She also described using her voice, experience, resources, and relationships to support solutions for victims and survivors. The recap reports that the couple works with organizations including the National Domestic Violence Hotline. Tommi pictured a “house” for survivors in which survivors are centered and help shape the solutions.

Troy Vincent recalled that he and his brother witnessed their mother being abused. He said the abuse affected her ability to work and put the family’s housing stability at risk. Reflecting on that experience, he said, “That experience taught me something that still I believe in today—that people closest to the problem often are the ones equipped to help find solutions.”

Judd challenged the idea that a witness can remain neutral by staying silent. She argued that supporting survivors requires speaking up and holding people who abuse others accountable. As the AOL recap quotes her: “There’s no such thing as a non-complicit bystander because if you really want to support survivors, you become an upstander,” Judd said. “You heal the village, you heal yourself, and you hold men accountable.”

What support resource did the recap include?
The AOL article included the National Domestic Violence Hotline as a resource and listed 1-800-799-SAFE and TheHotline.org, describing the hotline as available 24/7. Check the hotline’s own site for current contact details and availability.
