Questionable means the team is uncertain whether the player will play. It is a game-status designation, not a guarantee that the player will be active or inactive. Read it separately from that week’s practice participation, and check for official updates close to kickoff before locking your fantasy lineup.
Practice participation and game status are different
An NFL injury report contains two kinds of information that answer different questions. Practice participation describes how much a player took part in a particular team practice. Game status communicates the club’s stated expectation about that player’s availability for the game.
What practice labels mean
- Did Not Participate (DNP): The player did not take part in that practice.
- Limited Participation: The player took part in less than 100% of normal repetitions.
- Full Participation: The player took part in 100% of normal repetitions.
A limited practice is not itself a game designation: it does not say that the player will or will not play. Consider it alongside the player’s later practices and the club’s game-status designation.
What Questionable, Doubtful, and Out mean
| Game designation | What it communicates | Fantasy interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Questionable | It is uncertain whether the player will play. | Availability is unresolved; do not treat the label as confirmation either way. |
| Doubtful | It is unlikely the player will participate. | Plan for the possibility the player is unavailable, while checking for updates. |
| Out | The player will not play. | Do not place the player in an active fantasy lineup for that game. |
“Probable” is no longer one of the NFL game-status categories. A player’s practice participation may still help explain the week’s report, but it does not replace the game designation.

When NFL injury reports are filed
For a typical Sunday regular-season game, clubs file practice reports Wednesday through Friday and file the game-status report on Friday, generally by 4:00 p.m. New York time or as soon as possible after practice. Games played on other days follow different filing days, so the Sunday schedule should not be applied to every matchup.

- Check the latest official club or NFL report. Treat an earlier designation as a snapshot, not a permanent ruling.
- Look for an updated report if the player’s condition changes. Clubs must report an update when a player’s condition changes after the initial game-status report.
- Make the lineup decision using the newest available information. If the player remains uncertain, use an eligible replacement if your league’s lineup rules and kickoff timing allow it.
In practical terms, revisit the official report near kickoff, especially when the player is Questionable or the report has changed. A designation reflects the club’s stated expectation at that point; later information can alter the picture.
