You do not need a PC that renders 1,000 frames per second just to select a 1,000Hz monitor mode. You do need hardware that supports the particular monitor’s maximum refresh mode. For the LG UltraGear 25G590B-B, LG specifies Windows 11, DisplayPort 2.1, and a supported NVIDIA RTX 50-series or AMD Radeon RX 9070, RX 9060, RX 7900-series, or newer graphics card. These are requirements for this LG model, not a universal standard for every 1,000Hz display.

What hardware does the LG 25G590B-B require for 1,000Hz?

LG lists the following requirements for the UltraGear 25G590B-B’s maximum 1,000Hz mode. Check the exact monitor’s support page and manual before applying them to another display.

Part or setting LG’s stated requirement or qualification
Operating system Windows 11. LG’s U.S. announcement identifies this as a requirement for the model’s maximum refresh mode.
Graphics card NVIDIA RTX 50-series or AMD Radeon RX 9070, RX 9060, RX 7900-series, or newer. This is LG’s compatibility requirement for the 1,000Hz mode, not a promise of 1,000 FPS in every game.
Display connection DisplayPort 2.1. Check the graphics-card output, monitor input, and cable path against the monitor’s instructions.
Resolution and test scope LG Canada says its internal test verified 1,000Hz signal input at Full HD (1920 × 1080) with the listed NVIDIA and AMD graphics-card families. This is manufacturer signal-input verification, not an independent game benchmark. LG Canada’s product information describes that test.

For another 1,000Hz monitor, do not assume the same Windows version, graphics card, port, or resolution applies. Its maker’s specifications determine which combinations are supported.

Does a 1,000Hz monitor require 1,000 FPS?

No. Refresh rate is how often the display can update; FPS is how many frames the PC renders. A monitor can operate in a 1,000Hz mode while a game renders fewer than 1,000 frames per second. LG explicitly cautions that 1,000Hz support “does not imply or guarantee” 1,000 FPS or more in any particular game.

Actual frame rate depends on the game and system, including the CPU, GPU, memory, graphics settings, game-specific frame-rate limits, operating-system version, and driver version, according to LG. Its stated monitor requirements therefore tell you what is needed to enable the display mode—not what will sustain a particular frame rate in your games. There is no universal CPU model or RAM capacity established for achieving 1,000 FPS across games.

How to enable and verify the refresh rate in Windows 11

  1. Connect the monitor using the port and cable configuration specified for its maximum mode. For the LG 25G590B-B, LG specifies DisplayPort 2.1.
  2. Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display. If you use multiple displays, select the monitor you want to configure.
  3. Choose a refresh rate from the list, then check the reported resolution and refresh rate. Microsoft notes that available rates depend on the display; a rate marked with an asterisk may require a resolution change to use it. Microsoft’s instructions explain the setting and asterisk.
  4. Confirm the expected resolution remains active after selecting the target rate. If the maximum mode is missing, compare the monitor’s specifications with the GPU output, monitor input, cable, driver, and selected display mode.

What about overclocking and variable refresh rate?

LG lists a native 1,000Hz mode and up to 1,100Hz overclocked operation for the 25G590B-B. The 1,100Hz overclock has a feature trade-off: LG says it does not support AMD FreeSync Premium, and the monitor is certified for NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility at 1,000Hz. LG also states that its MBR Pro blur-reduction mode disables FreeSync Premium and G-SYNC compatibility. Check the monitor’s documentation for which combination of refresh rate and display features is available in the mode you intend to use.

AMD explains that FreeSync synchronizes a compatible display’s refresh with the graphics card’s frame rate, and warns that some display presets or custom settings can disable FreeSync. Its behavior should not be assumed identical across every monitor mode. AMD’s FreeSync guidance covers synchronization and display-setting considerations.

How to choose a compatible PC and monitor setup

Decide whether your goal is to enable the monitor’s maximum refresh mode or to reach a particular in-game frame rate. The first is answered by the monitor maker’s compatibility requirements; the second needs evidence for the specific game, settings, and PC configuration.

  • Connection: Verify the required DisplayPort or HDMI version and confirm that the GPU output, cable, and monitor input support the intended mode.
  • Game performance: Look for benchmarks for the actual game and the CPU/GPU configuration you are considering. A compatible graphics card alone does not establish a specific FPS result.
  • Adaptive sync and blur reduction: Check whether FreeSync or G-SYNC compatibility remains available at the selected refresh rate and whether a blur-reduction mode disables it.
  • Windows confirmation: Make sure Windows lists the target rate for the correct display while retaining the resolution you want.

LG’s 25G590B-B is one concrete example: its published 1,000Hz requirements concern Windows 11, DisplayPort 2.1, and the specified GPU families, while LG’s internal test describes Full HD signal input. Those details should not be generalized to a different monitor without checking its own documentation.
