Meta and Amazon Web Services announced an agreement to deploy tens of millions of AWS Graviton cores for CPU-intensive work supporting Meta’s AI efforts, including agentic AI. The initial scale can expand, but the companies did not disclose an exact core count, price, deployment schedule, or the Graviton generation specified in the agreement. ServeTheHome reports that AWS will host the compute, so the announcement is better understood as a cloud-compute deal than as a disclosed shipment of standalone processors.

What did Meta and AWS announce?

On April 24, 2026, Meta and AWS said Meta would use tens of millions of AWS Graviton cores, with room to expand as its AI capabilities grow. Meta described itself as one of the world’s largest Graviton customers. Neither company disclosed a precise core total. Amazon’s announcement and Meta’s announcement connect the deployment to CPU-intensive AI workloads.

“Tens of millions” refers to cores, not a stated number of processor chips. AWS says a Graviton5 chip has 192 cores, but the deal announcement does not say that Meta’s contract specifies Graviton5, and it gives no chip count from which to calculate a total. AWS’s product figure should not be mistaken for a disclosed contract quantity.

Is Meta buying physical Graviton chips or renting AWS compute?

The public announcement describes an agreement to use AWS Graviton compute. ServeTheHome reports that AWS confirmed the parts would be hosted by AWS, meaning the processors are part of AWS infrastructure rather than a disclosed delivery of standalone chips to Meta. The public contract itself is not available, so its detailed commercial and operational terms cannot be confirmed. See ServeTheHome’s account of the deal.

Why use CPUs for agentic AI?

Meta and AWS describe the target as CPU-intensive work behind agentic AI. AWS names real-time reasoning, code generation, search, and coordinating multi-step tasks as examples. These are the companies’ stated workload areas; they have not said how the cores will be divided among applications or that the deployment will run Amazon Bedrock specifically. AWS’s description and Meta’s account frame Graviton as compute for these CPU-heavy tasks, not as a replacement for every kind of AI hardware.

Meta’s infrastructure chief, Santosh Janardhan, said, “As we scale the infrastructure behind Meta’s AI ambitions, diversifying our compute sources is a strategic imperative.” The deal therefore also fits Meta’s stated aim of diversifying the compute supporting its AI systems.

Which Graviton generation is covered, and what performance claims did AWS make?

The official agreement description refers to Graviton cores without explicitly naming the processor generation. AWS’s announcement also discusses Graviton5 specifications, but that does not establish that the contract is specifically for Graviton5. Data Center Dynamics characterized the deployment as Graviton5; treat that as its reporting, not as a generation identified in the official deal description. Data Center Dynamics’ report supplies that characterization.

AWS says Graviton5 has 192 cores per chip, five times the cache of the previous generation, and up to 25% better performance than the previous generation. AWS further says the cache change can reduce inter-core communication delays by up to 33%. These are vendor claims in the announcement, not independent benchmark results for Meta’s workloads. AWS’s release gives the figures; ServeTheHome provides additional contextual specifications, including Arm Neoverse V3 cores and DDR5-8800 and PCIe Gen6 support, but those details do not identify the generation in Meta’s agreement. ServeTheHome’s technical coverage discusses those specifications.

How much is the deal worth, and when will the capacity arrive?

Meta and AWS did not publish an exact price or deployment schedule. Data Center Dynamics reported that AWS described the agreement, in response to a request for comment, as a “multibillion-dollar deal over several years.” That is a reported characterization rather than a disclosed contract value or payment schedule; the precise terms remain private. Data Center Dynamics’ report attributes the description to AWS.

What does AWS’s Graviton capacity demand tell us?

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy wrote in Amazon’s 2026 shareholder letter that two large AWS customers had asked to buy all Graviton instance capacity available in 2026. Amazon declined those requests because it had to account for other customers’ needs. Jassy said, “We can’t agree to these requests given other customers’ needs, but it gives you an idea of the demand.” The letter does not name the customers, so it does not establish that either one was Meta. Amazon’s shareholder letter offers context about demand, not evidence tying those requests to this agreement.
