The Lakers are expected to stagger Luka Dončić’s and Austin Reaves’s minutes during the 2026–27 regular season, according to a report published October 1, 2026. In basketball, staggering means overlapping two players for some stretches while arranging other stretches so one can lead the offense without the other on the floor. The item attributes the reporting to The Athletic’s Jovan Buha; RotoWire also describes the likely effect as separating some of the guards’ on-ball stretches. CBS Sports’ October 1 report and RotoWire’s item describe an anticipated approach, not a confirmed game-by-game plan. NBA.com’s fantasy-news listing repeated the item on October 2, 2026 (NBA.com fantasy news).
The practical implication is that when one guard rests, the other may remain available to handle the ball and organize the offense. That is an interpretation of the reported stagger, not a detailed coaching rationale quoted from Redick. The report provides no minute totals, substitution pattern, or final lineup. Dončić and Reaves had not yet shared the floor in scrimmages at the time the item was published.

The report names Collin Sexton, Quentin Grimes, Bronny James, and Jaden Hardy as possible sources of production. It does not guarantee that any of them will have a particular role or establish how they fit into the rotation. Their mention suggests other potential contributors, but the report does not provide a settled depth chart.
