X-Torrent is described as a modern peer-to-peer file-sharing protocol in a Robots.net article published February 5, 2024. But the available sources do not include a primary specification or a verifiable development project that confirms it exists as a distinct, current protocol. Its advertised features and clients should therefore be treated as claims, not established facts.
What is X-Torrent?
The article titled “Introduction to X-Torrent: The Future of P2P File Sharing” presents X-Torrent as a decentralized protocol for sharing files among peers. It attributes encryption, anonymity, scalability, easier use, and faster transfers to the technology, and names X-Stream, Torrentium, and P2P Master as clients. It also speculates about future AI security and blockchain features.
Those descriptions come from the Robots.net article, not from an X-Torrent specification or independently verified project documentation. The sources available here do not establish that X-Torrent is a distinct, current P2P protocol, verify the named clients, or substantiate the feature and roadmap claims. No X-Torrent-specific adoption, speed, or security statistic is established either.

Why the name can be confusing
A 2009 post in the XOOPS community refers to “X-Torrent 3.40” as a module in that software ecosystem and discusses announce code and P2P communication. That historical use shows the name has appeared in a different context; it does not establish that the module is the same project as the modern protocol described in the 2024 article.

How established BitTorrent software provides context
BitTorrent is a documented P2P file-sharing approach, and qBittorrent is one established client. Its project FAQ describes the software, supported systems, and locations used for torrent-related files and downloaded data. This is useful context for how a documented client works, but it is not evidence for X-Torrent and is not a recommendation based on testing.
Transfer speed should not be inferred from claims about simultaneous peer sourcing alone. A Washington University in St. Louis-hosted student project reports a limited BitTorrent measurement study in which the torrent was the primary significant factor and the client a secondary one. That finding is specific to the study; it is not a general speed ranking and says nothing about X-Torrent.

Is X-Torrent safe, anonymous, or faster?
Those benefits are asserted in the Robots.net article but are not corroborated by primary X-Torrent documentation in the sources available here. Without a verified protocol specification, security design, or independently documented project, there is no sound basis to treat encryption, anonymity, or performance advantages as confirmed. The same caution applies to the clients and future features named in that article.

Does using a P2P client make a download legal?
No. The software or protocol and the file being shared are separate questions. qBittorrent’s project FAQ cautions that downloading restricted material may be illegal depending on the user’s country. Check the rights to the specific content and the law that applies where you are; using P2P software does not by itself authorize sharing copyrighted material.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where do downloaded files go?
In a documented client such as qBittorrent, the download location is configured locally. An external hard drive can be an optional place to store large files if it suits your setup, but it is not an X-Torrent requirement and does not, by itself, improve transfer speed or privacy.
