Valve Regional Standings (VRS) is Valve’s official monthly system for ranking Counter-Strike 2 rosters. Tournament organizers use the relevant VRS list to determine the order of direct invitations, but a high ranking does not guarantee entry: roster-continuity and event-specific eligibility rules also apply.
How does VRS work in CS2?
Valve defines VRS as “the official system for ranking the performance of Rosters published by Valve, which is published monthly and shall be the basis for Direct VRS Invites.” In other words, it is an official roster-ranking system that tournament organizers can use to allocate direct invitations—not an in-game leaderboard or an individual player skill rating. The definition appears in Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 Tournament Operation Requirements.
The ranking belongs to a five-player roster
Valve defines a roster as five specific athletes, regardless of whether they are currently associated—or later become associated—with a particular team organization. The organization’s name and branding are therefore not, by themselves, the ranked unit. A roster can remain identifiable under the rules even if its organizational affiliation changes.

For a ranked tournament, the organizer specifies which VRS list or lists it will use, how many rosters it intends to invite from each, and the starting rank for invitations. It must invite at least two rosters from each list it uses, proceed in rank order, and use the latest VRS publication available on the invitation date. If a roster declines or cannot accept, the organizer continues down the list.

This makes VRS an invitation sequence, not an automatic qualification for every event. Organizers set the applicable invitation plan and may have additional published criteria. A roster’s position at one tournament does not establish that it will receive an invitation to another.
What is the difference between regional and global VRS lists?
| List or use | Purpose established by Valve’s rules |
|---|---|
| Regional lists: EU, Americas, and Asia | Used for invitations to the Major under the Major Supplemental Rulebook. |
| Global list | Used for pre-event stage seeding after Major invitations have been accepted. |
The three principal regions for Major invitations are Europe (EU), Americas, and Asia. The general tournament requirements also allow an organizer, in specified circumstances and subject to citizenship criteria, to subdivide Americas invitations into North America and South America pairs, or Asia invitations among Oceania, West Asia, and East Asia. These are optional subdivisions for tournament invitations, not additional principal regions replacing the three Major lists.

How a Major assigns a roster to a region
For Major invitations, the roster is assigned to the region represented by the majority of its players. If regional representation is tied, the Major rulebook’s priority order is Europe, then Americas, then Asia. The rulebook distinguishes this regional invitation assignment from the global list used for seeding after invitations are accepted.

| Major stage | Invitations described in the rulebook |
|---|---|
| Stage 1 | 16 teams |
| Stage 2 | 8 teams |
| Stage 3 | 8 teams |
For Stages 2 and 3, the regional allocation of invitations depends on how many teams from each region reached those respective stages at the previous Major. These figures and allocation rules describe the Major structure in Valve’s Counter-Strike Major Supplemental Rulebook; they should not be treated as a promise that every future tournament will use the same stage format.
What makes a VRS invite valid for a roster?
Rank determines the order in which organizers offer invitations; it does not override roster-continuity or tournament-specific eligibility rules. Under Valve’s general tournament requirements, a directly invited roster can accept only if at least three of the participating athletes were members of that roster on the invitation date and will play in every match of the event. The roster must also meet the tournament’s other published invitation criteria and must not already have declined that tournament.
Rank #4
- SUMMON THE DRAGON LORE — Engineered for elite competitive play, the Gigantus V2 Large - Counter-Strike 2 Edition is the ultimate weapon for rushing B
- TEXTURED MICRO-WEAVE CLOTH SURFACE — Optimized across all mouse sensors for pixel-precise accuracy and total tracking responsiveness, the weave’s high thread count let the mouse glide with ease across the mat for quick, fluid swipes
- THICK, HIGH-DENSITY RUBBER FOAM — At 3mm thick, the mats remain uniformly flat even over imperfect surfaces—a sturdy foundation for consistent mouse movements
- ANTI-SLIP BASE — When things get chaotic, pull off clutch plays with a stable base that’s crucial to competitive gaming
Check the specific tournament’s rules rather than assuming every event applies identical filters. Valve’s requirements say the governing version is the one current at the event’s Additional Information deadline, and individual event criteria can affect who is eligible to accept an invitation.
Does Valve publish the VRS calculation formula?
The official rules cited here establish VRS’s purpose, monthly publication, roster basis, and role in direct invitations. They do not provide a complete calculation formula, weights, or a full account of the inputs and time window. It would therefore be misleading to attribute a specific points system, prize-money weighting, or recent-form formula to these rules.
