Toast V11 is a free, image-led notification-card template from Colorlib—not Bootstrap’s built-in toast component. Colorlib describes it as standalone HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript that can also be added to Bootstrap projects. What Toast V11 includes
The template’s demo notification is designed like a travel-app card. Colorlib’s listing describes a photo, label chip, title, short message, call-to-action button, and timestamp. The downloadable file is listed as 501 KB. Colorlib names Aigars Silkalns as author and lists the template under a CC BY 3.0 license; check the license terms and attribution requirements before reusing or adapting it.
Colorlib says Toast V11 uses plain HTML and CSS with a few lines of vanilla JavaScript, without jQuery, Bootstrap files, or plugins. It is described as usable on its own or in Bootstrap 4, 5, or 6 projects. Those compatibility statements come from the template listing; Bootstrap’s official documentation cited below is specifically for version 5.3.
How its dismissal interaction is described
Colorlib presents sideways pointer-driven swiping as the template’s signature interaction: the card follows the pointer and fades as it moves. A gesture that passes the stated distance or flick threshold dismisses the card; a shorter swipe returns it to its starting position. The listing also describes dismissal through a close button or the Escape key. These are publisher-stated features, not independently verified behavior.

The card’s visual density is a design choice: its image, label, message, action, and timestamp can communicate more than a compact text-only notification, but also take up more screen space. Preserve descriptive alternative text and suitable intrinsic width and height if you use the image-led layout. The listing mentions local photos but does not establish separate image licensing beyond the template’s stated license.
Toast V11 versus Bootstrap’s built-in toast
Bootstrap’s official v5.3 documentation describes its own component as “lightweight notifications designed to mimic the push notifications that have been popularized by mobile and desktop operating systems.” Bootstrap toasts are opt-in: you initialize the JavaScript component and call its API or use a data-attribute trigger. They do not show merely because their markup is present. Bootstrap’s component automatically hides by default unless you set autohide: false.

Choose Toast V11 when you want its image-led card and publisher-described swipe interaction, or Bootstrap’s component when your project needs Bootstrap’s established toast API and layout conventions. Do not treat the template as Bootstrap’s built-in component simply because it can be used in a Bootstrap project.

In Bootstrap’s component, the toast is hidden until you initialize and show it. The official documentation’s pattern is to select the toast element, create or retrieve its bootstrap.Toast instance, and call .show(). Bootstrap examples place toast elements inside a .toast-container; utility classes on that container control placement, and multiple toasts can be stacked inside it. See the official Bootstrap v5.3 toast documentation for the full markup and current utility-class options.

To keep a toast from disappearing automatically, initialize it with autohide: false. For a bottom-right position, use the placement utilities shown in Bootstrap’s toast examples on the container. These instructions apply to Bootstrap v5.3’s component, not to Toast V11’s standalone implementation.
Accessibility and when to use a toast
Bootstrap recommends placing toast notifications in an aria-live region with aria-atomic="true", so assistive technologies can announce the full message. Use role="status" with aria-live="polite" for routine updates; reserve role="alert" and aria-live="assertive" for important errors or urgent information. The live region should exist before the toast is generated or updated. Follow the Bootstrap documentation when implementing its component, and provide clear alternatives to any pointer gesture in a custom interaction.

A toast is appropriate when a person can continue working without responding immediately—for example, a confirmation, non-critical error, undo opportunity, live status, loading update, or upload progress. Prefer an inline alert when information needs to remain visible in the page context, and a modal when the person must respond before continuing. A persistent offline indicator is usually better presented so it remains available rather than disappearing as a transient toast.

Colorlib lists Toast V11 under CC BY 3.0. Review that license’s requirements before publishing a modified version, and retain appropriate attribution. Do not assume the same terms cover every toast example or third-party design inspiration: Colorlib’s collection discusses its own examples separately and notes that original inspirations can have different terms. Follow the license attached to the specific asset you reuse.
