Tattvam AI is a London startup building software to help automate decisions in semiconductor design, especially the iterative physical-design work that turns RTL into a tape-out-ready layout. The company says its AI could compress chip-design timelines from years to weeks, but that is a goal—not a publicly verified customer result or production benchmark. Its intended role is to work alongside established EDA tools such as Synopsys and Cadence, not replace them outright.
What Tattvam AI is building
Tattvam describes its product as an “intelligence layer” for chip design. The idea is to give software a deeper understanding of a circuit’s structure and design intent, then use that understanding to reason about architecture, power, performance, area and physical constraints. Rather than simply executing a narrowly defined task, the system is intended to help make more of the interdependent design decisions that engineers now revisit across specialised teams.
Co-founder and CEO Bragadeesh Suresh Babu summarized the thesis to Seedcamp in 2026: “Chip design is fundamentally a reasoning problem over an enormous search space, not unlike the kind of reasoning that’s needed to solve hard problems in mathematics.” That is the company’s framing of the challenge; it does not by itself demonstrate that the software can make reliable design decisions without engineering review.

RTL, or register-transfer level, describes a digital circuit’s logic and how data moves between registers. Turning that description into GDSII—a layout file used for chip fabrication—requires successive steps that connect logical behavior to a physically implementable design. Tattvam is targeting the difficult, iterative work in this transition, particularly physical design.

Physical-design tasks in scope
EE Times describes the relevant work as including floorplanning, placement, routing, clock-tree synthesis, power planning, timing closure and design-rule checking. These tasks involve competing constraints: a change that improves timing, for example, can affect area, power or routability. Engineers may need to run tools, inspect results and adjust choices repeatedly before the design meets its targets.
Tattvam’s proposed contribution is to reason across those trade-offs and help decide what to change within the existing design workflow. It is not described as a replacement for the entire RTL-to-GDSII toolchain, nor does the public material establish that it can independently complete every stage through sign-off.
Why faster iteration could matter
Custom chip development is expensive and time-consuming partly because many decisions depend on one another. Seedcamp wrote in 2026 that custom chip design absorbs almost $80 billion in R&D spending each year, and that a single chip can take years and hundreds of engineers to move from concept to production. These are Seedcamp’s figures, not a Tattvam product benchmark.

- 4 Switches, 4 Buttons, 1 Reset Button, 4 LEDs, 4 RGB LEDs, 4 Pmod connectors, shield connector
EE Times reported the founder’s estimate that complex chips can take two to three years and that individual physical-design iterations may take months. The same article relayed the company’s claim that a late design error can cause months of delay and a $50 million respin. That dollar figure should be understood as a company-reported example, not an independently audited industry average.
Reducing the time spent exploring and correcting physical-design choices could therefore be valuable even if engineers remain responsible for architecture, constraints and final approval. However, a faster workflow would need to preserve design quality: shorter runtimes alone would not establish that a result meets power, performance, area, reliability and manufacturing requirements.
How Tattvam says it will address the data problem
Training AI for chip design presents a data challenge: semiconductor designs are generally closed source, limiting access to examples that could be used to train models. Tattvam says it uses domain-specific models trained with synthetic data inspired by abstract-reasoning and mathematical tasks.

Seedcamp investor Will Bennett wrote in 2026 that, despite the lack of publicly available design data, Tattvam had worked to gain access to semiconductor-industry environments and begin building a product. That account describes the team’s progress and approach; it does not specify the amount or type of customer data available, or independently establish model performance on real designs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDoes Tattvam replace Synopsys or Cadence?
No such replacement is the stated plan. Tattvam says its local AI system is meant to complement established EDA software by adding a reasoning and decision layer that can understand a circuit and suggest actions within existing workflows. In that model, EDA tools continue to perform their specialised design and implementation functions while Tattvam helps guide decisions.
The public description does not provide a detailed compatibility matrix, name supported tools or versions, or explain exactly how recommendations would be applied and reviewed. Those details matter in practice because semiconductor workflows depend on a project’s tools, process-design kit (PDK), constraints and confidentiality requirements.

How much faster could chip design become?
EE Times reported the company’s ambition to shorten timelines that can stretch across years to weeks. The public information available here does not establish a measured reduction for a customer design, a controlled comparison against an existing workflow, or a tape-out produced using Tattvam. The “weeks” figure is therefore a target, not a demonstrated guarantee.
To assess a real speed claim, a customer would need comparable evidence: what design and workflow were used, which stages were included, how much human intervention remained, and whether the final result met the same power, performance, area and design-rule targets. No such benchmark is identified in the public announcements described here.
Who founded and funded Tattvam AI?
Tattvam was founded by Bragadeesh Suresh Babu, its CEO and co-founder, and Lannan Jiang. Business Standard reported that Jiang’s background includes high-performance chip development at an ETH Zurich research lab.

Is Tattvam AI available to use?
Tattvam is at an early product-development stage. Business Standard reported that the company planned to launch its first product in the coming months, but the public announcements described here do not identify a public product name or SKU, pricing, customer deployment, completed tape-out or fabricated silicon. A planned launch is not confirmation that a product is generally available.
For chip teams evaluating the technology, the key questions will be how it integrates with their EDA environment and PDK, what design data it needs, how recommendations are validated, and what measurable impact it has on completed designs. Until those details and results are public, Tattvam is best understood as a promising automation approach under development rather than a proven way to accelerate production chip design.
