Samsung Smart Hub is the menu system on a Samsung Smart TV: it brings TV functions and entertainment such as apps and games together in one interface. It is not, by itself, a standalone smart-home hub. Some Samsung TVs also offer a separate SmartThings Hub feature for connecting compatible smart-home devices, but availability depends on the TV model and the device protocol.
What is Smart Hub?
Samsung UK describes Smart Hub as “the intelligent menu system for Samsung Smart TVs.” From the TV’s Smart Hub Home screen, you can access TV features and online entertainment, including apps and games. Browsing and using online services requires an internet connection, and the available features can vary by model and region. Samsung UK’s Smart Hub guide was updated on 12 September 2026; Samsung Gulf’s usage guide was updated on 8 June 2026.
The physical product is the Samsung Smart TV; Smart Hub is its interface. It is not a separate device you need to buy to use the TV’s apps.
How do you find and install apps?
Samsung’s Gulf guide describes this route, though labels and app catalogs can differ across TV models and regions:

- Connect the TV to the internet.
- Open the Smart Hub Home menu.
- Choose Apps.
- Search for the app you want, select it, and choose Install.
If the steps or labels do not match your screen, use the TV’s current on-screen menu and the support page for your exact model and region. An internet connection is needed to access Smart Hub’s online features and apps.
Does Smart Hub require a Samsung Account?
Requirements depend on the product generation and region. Samsung UK says signing in to a Samsung Account can provide additional Smart Hub options, including downloading apps. Samsung UK’s guide does not describe that as a universal requirement for every Smart TV.

Samsung Canada sets a specific rule for its market: on Samsung Smart TVs and Smart Monitors from 2023 onward, a Samsung Account is required to use Smart Hub apps, services, and functions. Users must also accept the Smart Hub terms and privacy notice. If you skipped account setup initially, Samsung says you can sign in later from Smart Hub Home and accept those terms. Smart Hub vs. SmartThings Hub: what is the difference?
The similar names refer to different things:

Samsung Canada says the SmartThings Hub feature can connect supported devices such as lights, plugs, and sensors over Wi-Fi or through cloud-to-cloud connections. It is separate from Smart Hub’s app-installation functions. Samsung’s model examples and compatibility details are not a complete current list, so confirm support for your exact TV and devices in Samsung Canada’s SmartThings Hub guide, updated 9 November 2023.

Does a Samsung TV need a dongle for Smart Hub?
No. The SmartThings Dongle VG-STDB10A is not needed to use Smart Hub apps. Samsung says some 2023 products require the dongle for Zigbee or Thread smart-home connections; its guide also says Z-Wave is not supported. Those protocol details concern the SmartThings Hub feature, not the TV’s entertainment menu. Confirm requirements for the exact TV model before buying an accessory.

- Smart Hub and apps: Confirm the apps you need are available for the exact TV model and region.
- Account and software requirements: Check the requirements that apply to the TV’s generation and your country.
- SmartThings Hub feature: Verify that the particular TV supports the feature; it is not available on every Samsung TV.
- Device protocol: Match the connected device’s protocol to the TV’s supported connection method, and determine whether a dongle is required.
Samsung’s US support page covers connecting a Samsung TV in the SmartThings app, but app connection guidance alone does not establish that a TV has the SmartThings Hub feature or supports a particular device protocol: Samsung US: Connect a Samsung TV in the SmartThings app. Use the support information for the specific TV and region when confirming compatibility.
