PewDiePie says OpenAI deactivated his account twice while he was developing Ajax, a model reported to be a fine-tuned version of Qwen3.5-9B for the self-hosted Odysseus AI workspace. One email he showed reportedly cited “distillation.” The account history has not been independently explained by OpenAI, and the sources available as of October 3, 2026, do not confirm a public Ajax download, model-weights license, hardware requirements, or benchmark results.
What is Ajax?
Tom’s Hardware reported on October 2, 2026, that PewDiePie introduced Ajax as a fine-tuned Qwen3.5-9B model intended for Odysseus. “9B” is part of the model name, not a performance score. The available coverage does not provide benchmark results or establish what hardware is needed to run Ajax.
The project page, as described in that report, presents Ajax as offering a “freer, less restricted AI experience.” That is the project’s characterization, not an independent assessment of its capabilities or safety.

What is Odysseus?
Odysseus is a self-hosted AI workspace. Its GitHub README describes software for chat, agents, research, documents, email, notes, calendars, and workflows with local models. The project is presented as a way to bring those functions into a workspace users host themselves; that does not by itself establish that Ajax is available to download or can run on any particular home PC.

Why does PewDiePie say OpenAI deactivated his account?
In the account he gave in a video, PewDiePie said OpenAI deactivated his account twice while he was working on Ajax. Tom’s Hardware reported that an email shown in the video cited “distillation” in connection with one deactivation. PewDiePie said his account was restored once and then deactivated again after he used a model to create seed data. The email displayed reportedly did not give specific examples.
This is PewDiePie’s account of what happened, including his interpretation of the displayed email; the available sources do not include an independent OpenAI explanation of these specific account actions. Reacting to the second deactivation, he asked, “How did they even know?”

What does distillation mean here?
In this context, distillation means using outputs or reasoning from one model to help train another. PewDiePie said he wanted to “distill just a little bit” to improve Ajax. The term explains the method he described; it does not establish exactly what data he used, how the account actions were decided, or why the second deactivation occurred.
What does “uncensored” mean for Ajax?
Tom’s Hardware reported that Ajax’s refusal behavior was altered using automatic abliteration with the open-source Heretic tool. In practical terms, the report describes a change intended to reduce the model’s tendency to refuse requests. It does not establish how often Ajax will refuse, how it behaves across different prompts, or whether it can reliably prevent harmful output.
Rank #3
PewDiePie said he drew a line at helping someone harm other people or themselves. On his lawyer’s advice, he described Ajax as “not designed to provide dangerous actionable instructions.” Those statements describe intended limits, not the results of an independent safety evaluation; they are not evidence that dangerous responses are impossible.
Can you download Ajax and run it on a home PC?
Availability remains unclear. Free Press Journal reported on October 2, 2026, that Ajax was not then available for download and that there was no final model card, public benchmark, or confirmed license for its weights. Other launch coverage used terms such as “unveiled” or “released,” but did not establish a public download. The sources available as of October 3 therefore do not confirm that readers can download Ajax now.
Check the official Ajax project page for a current release before attempting installation. Until a public model release and technical documentation are available, there is no supported way to state which home PCs can run it, what configuration is required, or how it performs. A model designation alone does not answer those questions.
What are Ajax’s license and development status?
The Odysseus repository README identifies the workspace software as licensed under AGPL-3.0-or-later. That applies to the repository’s software; it does not establish the license or usage terms for Ajax’s model weights. The reviewed launch coverage did not confirm a final weights license.
PewDiePie discussed further development, including additional reinforcement learning, another decensoring step, quantization, and benchmarking before a next version. These were described as future work, not completed features or published test results. He said, “I can’t wait to release the next version of Ajax and Odysseus.”
Quick Recap
What can be established about Ajax today?
- Model: Tom’s Hardware reported that Ajax is a fine-tuned Qwen3.5-9B model for Odysseus.
- Workspace: Odysseus is self-hosted software for AI-assisted work, including chat, research, documents, email, notes, and calendars.
- Account story: PewDiePie said OpenAI deactivated his account twice; a displayed email reportedly cited distillation for one action. The specific account decisions have not been independently explained in the available sources.
- Refusal behavior: Reporting says Heretic was used to alter Ajax’s refusal behavior. No independent safety evaluation is established.
- Unconfirmed details: A current public download, model-weight license, home-PC requirements, and benchmark results are not established by the reviewed coverage.
