Infineon Automotive PSoC 4 is a family of AEC-Q100-qualified, Arm Cortex-M0/M0+-based microcontrollers for automotive embedded designs. Its programmable analog and digital resources can support applications such as touch-based HMI and sensing, but PSoC 4 is a platform—not a single interchangeable part. Choose an exact device only after checking its datasheet against your application’s memory, I/O, interfaces, voltage, temperature, package, and development-tool requirements.
What is Automotive PSoC 4?
Infineon presents Automotive PSoC 4 as a configurable MCU platform that combines an Arm Cortex-M0 or Cortex-M0+ processor with programmable analog and digital resources. Portfolio materials describe sensing capabilities, including CAPSENSE, and communication options such as I2C, CAN, CAN FD, segment LCD, and as many as five serial communication blocks (SCBs). These are portfolio-level capabilities; they should not be read as a checklist of features available on every family or orderable device. Infineon’s Automotive PSoC 4 overview describes the broader platform.
The family is intended for automotive embedded applications where configurable peripheral and sensing resources may be useful. Infineon highlights automotive HMI and sensing across the portfolio; its 4000S page specifically names center information displays and HVAC. The appropriate device depends on the actual design, not simply on the PSoC 4 name.

They are distinct family positions, not alternate names for the same MCU. Infineon calls the 4000 the smallest member of the overall PSoC 4 platform. It describes the 4000S as the starter family of the PSoC 4 S series. Their published family summaries also differ in core, memory, and listed features.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

| PSoC Automotive 4000 | Smallest member of the PSoC 4 platform; 16 MHz Arm Cortex-M0 | Up to 16 KB flash and 2 KB SRAM | AEC-Q100 qualification; 1.71–5.5 V operation; up to 20 programmable GPIOs; programmable analog blocks; 24-pin QFN and 16-pin SOIC packages; A, S, and E temperature grades. Infineon 4000 family page |
These are family-page summaries, not guarantees for every member or package. For example, “up to” memory and GPIO figures describe a family maximum rather than the specification of every part. Confirm the precise capabilities, pinout, and limits in the datasheet for the device under consideration.
Where does the 4200 family fit?
Infineon documentation describes PSoC Automotive 4200 as an entry-level automotive Cortex-M0 family with programmable digital logic, an ADC, a comparator-mode opamp, and standard communication and timing peripherals. The documentation lists up to 32 KB flash and 4 KB SRAM, along with A and S temperature grades. These details are a family documentation reference; consult the exact device documentation and verify current product status before making a selection. Infineon’s PSoC Automotive 4200 overview provides the family reference.

How should you evaluate a PSoC 4 for an automotive design?
Start with the application’s constraints, then match them to an exact orderable part. The family label alone cannot establish fit.
- Processing and memory: Check the device’s core and clock specification, flash capacity for firmware, and SRAM for runtime data.
- Package and I/O: Verify package dimensions, pin count, usable GPIO, pin multiplexing, and the connections required by external circuitry.
- Analog and digital resources: Identify which programmable blocks, ADC functions, comparators, timing resources, or other peripherals the design requires; confirm that the specific device includes them.
- Sensing: For touch or proximity applications, check the sensing hardware and supported functions on the exact part, along with the required electrodes, channels, and board design.
- Communication: Confirm the protocol and peripheral instance needed by the design. A portfolio mention of CAN, CAN FD, or I2C does not establish that a particular device supports it.
- Electrical and environmental limits: Match the device’s supply-voltage range and temperature grade to the system requirements. Do not transfer one family’s grade or limits to another device.
- Development support: Check current device-specific documentation, software support, and compatible development hardware before committing to a toolchain or board.
AEC-Q100 qualification is relevant to automotive component selection, but it does not replace checking the exact device’s qualification information and electrical limits against the project’s requirements. Nor does a family-level feature list establish a specific safety capability or certification for an individual part.

What software and hardware support should you verify?
Infineon documentation references PSoC Creator and ModusToolbox within its automotive MCU development ecosystem. That does not establish that every tool release, board, or software package supports every current or legacy PSoC 4 device. Before choosing a development environment, use the selected device’s official documentation to confirm tool compatibility, available examples, and supported hardware. Infineon’s automotive documentation and software overview describes the ecosystem.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is a sensible selection outcome?
Use the 4000, 4000S, or 4200 family descriptions to narrow the search, not to make the final part decision. Record the application’s required core, memory, package and pins, peripheral set, sensing functions, voltage range, temperature grade, and development path. Then compare those requirements with the exact device datasheet and current support information. Without a defined design and verified device-level specifications, there is no universally best PSoC 4 variant.
