Helsing’s CA-1 Europa is a three-to-five-ton-class uncrewed combat aircraft that the European defence company unveiled on 25 September 2025. Helsing describes it as a high-subsonic aircraft designed to operate autonomously in contested airspace, alone or as part of a swarm. It is still under development: the company has said it expects the production version to be operational within four years of the announcement, but has not given a firm in-service date or published independent validation of the aircraft’s performance.
What is the CA-1 Europa?
The CA-1 Europa is Helsing’s proposed uncrewed fighter aircraft, also described as an autonomous uncrewed combat aerial vehicle, or UCAV. Its three-to-five-ton class and high-subsonic design put it in a different category from small battlefield drones and one-way strike munitions. Helsing presents it as an aircraft intended to add combat capacity alongside piloted aircraft, with a design and production approach aimed at making uncrewed combat aviation more scalable and affordable than relying only on traditional fighters.
Helsing is developing the aircraft with its subsidiary Grob Aircraft and other European aerospace partners. The company’s stated industrial ambition is to support dispersed operations and scalable production. It has not published a final unit price, so “affordable mass” remains a design and business goal rather than a demonstrated cost advantage.

What does Helsing say the aircraft will do?
Operate alone or with other aircraft
Helsing says CA-1 can fly as a single asset or as part of a swarm, and is designed for autonomous operation in contested and denied environments. The company has not released detailed public performance data on range, endurance, payload mass or the conditions under which the aircraft could complete missions in those environments.

Carry weapons and mission equipment internally
The proposed design includes an internal weapons bay. Helsing also describes modular integration for sensors, self-protection systems, electronic-warfare equipment and other effectors. This indicates an intended architecture that can accommodate different mission systems; it does not establish which specific weapons or payloads have been integrated or tested.
How does the AI fit into the CA-1?
Helsing says the aircraft is natively controllable by its Centaur AI pilot and is supported by a command-and-control system for planning, controlling and surveilling autonomous missions. The CA-1 product page names three software components: Centaur for autonomous combat, Cirra for electronic warfare and Symphony for mission operations.

- Revell Model Kit #85-5810, Skill Level 4, Contains 66-Parts, Recommended for ages 12 and up
- Accurate surface details
- Includes GTD-21 surveillance drone with cart
- Decals with authentic U.S. Air Force markings
- Molded in black and clear. Paint and glue required(not included).
Those descriptions are company claims about a system under development. The public information cited for the announcement does not establish independent operational validation of CA-1’s autonomy or combat performance. It also does not specify how human authorization, supervision or intervention would work during a mission. Calling the aircraft “autonomous” therefore describes Helsing’s intended capability, not proof that it has already performed combat missions independently.
When could CA-1 Europa enter service?
At the 25 September 2025 unveiling, Helsing said it expected the production version to be operational within four years. That is a company expectation pointing to a target window within roughly four years of the announcement, not a confirmed delivery or service date. Helsing’s current product information continues to label the aircraft as under development.

The available official material does not report confirmed CA-1 flight-test results or give final specifications for range, endurance, payload mass or price. Those gaps make it too early to assess the aircraft as a proven operational capability or to compare its performance quantitatively with other combat aircraft.
Who is building it, and what is the HENSOLDT partnership?
Helsing is leading the CA-1 effort with Grob Aircraft, its subsidiary, and other European aerospace partners. On 12 February 2026, HENSOLDT and Helsing announced a strategic partnership focused on the aircraft. HENSOLDT said it would contribute radar, optronics, self-protection and electromagnetic-warfare systems. Its MDOcore suite is intended to provide a digital backbone for data fusion, networking and mission coordination.

- This is a plastic model kit. Assembly and painting is required.
- Paint and glue is NOT included.
- Contains parts to build one of each model.
The partnership illustrates the effort to bring sensors, electronic-warfare equipment and mission software together in a European industrial programme. The announcement identifies intended contributions; it does not by itself confirm that all systems have been integrated, tested or qualified on CA-1.
How is CA-1 different from Helsing’s HX-2?
CA-1 and HX-2 are separate systems, not two names for the same drone. CA-1 is a planned uncrewed fighter aircraft. HX-2 is an electrically propelled X-wing precision-strike munition. Their scale, roles and announced capabilities differ:
Best Value

- This product is suitable for ages over 14 only
| Feature | CA-1 Europa | HX-2 |
|---|---|---|
| Type and role | Three-to-five-ton-class uncrewed combat aircraft intended for fighter missions. | Electrically propelled X-wing precision-strike munition. |
| Autonomy and employment | Helsing says it is natively controllable by its Centaur AI pilot and can operate alone or in a swarm. CA-1 performance has not been independently validated in the cited official material. | Helsing says it has onboard AI intended to resist electronic warfare and jamming, and can operate in swarms through the Altra recce-strike platform. |
| Published range | Not stated in the cited official material. | Up to 100 km, according to Helsing. |
| Development and production information | Unveiled on 25 September 2025; still described as under development. Helsing’s expectation that the production version will be operational within four years is not a firm service date. | On 13 February 2025, Helsing announced production of 6,000 additional HX-2 strike drones for delivery to Ukraine, after an earlier order for 4,000 HF-1 drones. |
The HX-2 figures concern a separate munition and should not be read as evidence of CA-1 production, orders or performance.
What remains unknown about CA-1?
Helsing’s announcements establish the aircraft’s intended role, broad weight class, software approach, design features and named industrial partners. They do not establish a complete performance profile. In particular, the cited official material does not publish:
- A final price or confirmed production rate.
- Detailed range, endurance or payload-mass figures.
- Confirmed CA-1 flight-test results or independent operational validation.
- A firm in-service date or a detailed account of human oversight during autonomous missions.
Those omissions matter when judging claims about affordability, autonomy and combat usefulness: the announced concept and intended systems are not the same as demonstrated operational capability.
