Backkit is an interactive command-line tool its author describes as a way to scaffold customizable Node.js backends. You choose options such as language, framework, database, ORM or ODM, and authentication; the CLI then generates project files and configuration for those choices. The author’s sample command is npx @ghost1411/backkit.
What Backkit says it can generate
The listed choices cover several parts of a Node.js backend:
- Language: TypeScript or JavaScript
- Framework: Express or Fastify
- Database: PostgreSQL or MongoDB
- Data layer: Drizzle or Prisma for an ORM, or Mongoose for a MongoDB ODM
- Authentication: Better Auth, JWT, or no authentication
According to the author, the generator uses those selections to create a project structure, framework and database configuration, ORM/ODM and authentication setup, environment configuration, and dependency setup. The exact files depend on the selected stack.
The author’s example TypeScript-and-Express tree includes configuration, controllers, database code, middleware, routes, services, environment files, package metadata, TypeScript configuration, and a README. This is an illustrative structure, not a guarantee that every generated project contains those exact files.

How to try the CLI
- Run
npx @ghost1411/backkitin a terminal. The author presents this as the way to start without a global installation. - Answer the interactive prompts for the stack you want. Check the options the CLI actually offers; the documented list should not be taken to mean every possible combination is available or independently verified.
- Enter the generated project directory and run
npm install. - Start the development setup with
npm run dev, as shown in the author’s instructions. If that script is absent or fails, inspect the generatedpackage.jsonand README for the commands supported by that project.
What is available now, and what is planned?
The author marks the interactive CLI, custom stack selection, project generation, template-based architecture, npm package, and npx support as current capabilities. Broader framework, database, ORM/ODM, and authentication support—as well as additional architecture patterns, custom user templates, community templates, and configuration options—are listed as planned. Roadmap items can change, so treat them as future intentions rather than features available today.
What to inspect before adopting a generated backend
Scaffolding can provide a starting structure, but generated files still need review. Before building on a project, compare the output with your requirements and inspect its configuration and code:

- Confirm that the selected language, framework, database, data layer, and authentication approach match your intended design.
- Review environment-variable handling and make sure secrets are not committed to source control.
- Check database connection behavior, authentication and authorization logic, error handling, and dependency versions.
- Read the generated scripts and README, then run the project and its tests if provided.
- Assess security, operational needs, and deployment requirements independently; a generated development setup is not evidence of production readiness.
The available author description explains the intended workflow and capabilities, but does not provide independent execution results, compatibility testing, security review, or performance measurements.

Package information and evidence limits
A third-party npm package index showed Backkit as version 1.0.2, under the MIT license, with one dependency in a snapshot accessed in 2026. The index also said its health report was in progress, so that snapshot does not establish a completed security or health assessment, nor should it be treated as definitive current npm metadata. The author’s article displays “Posted on Sep 28” without a year.
