A follow-me service routes incoming calls to a configured phone or destination so a person can be reached through a number associated with the service. Depending on the telephone system, calls may go to one destination, several destinations at once, or destinations in sequence. The term is also used for a specific mobile-network feature, so its exact meaning and controls depend on the provider.
What does “follow-me service” mean?
In everyday phone-service use, a follow-me service is a call-routing feature: a caller dials a number, and the carrier or phone system forwards or routes the call to a destination where the intended person may be reached. A provider may describe a related feature as call forwarding, single-number reach, or find-me/follow-me routing. The caller-facing number can remain stable even when the destination changes. The CRTC describes find-me/follow-me in connection with single-number reach, while Bell Canada’s tariff lists Single Number Reach.
It is a service feature, not a special handset or accessory. The carrier or telephone system provides the routing logic; a device by itself does not make calls follow a user to other numbers.

In ETSI/3GPP mobile-network standards, “Follow Me” has a narrower definition than the everyday business-phone usage. ETSI TS 122 094 / 3GPP TS 22.094 describes a feature that lets mobile subscriber A manipulate the Follow Me data of party B so that, under certain conditions, later calls to B are forwarded to A. This is not simply the general idea of forwarding your own calls to whichever device you prefer.
#1 Best Overall
- 25-Minute Digital Answering System — Never miss a message again. Record up to 25 minutes of incoming calls, outgoing announcements, and memos with easy instant playback, selective save/delete, and the ability to skip or repeat messages right from the handset or base
- Extra-Large Tiltable Backlit Display — See Caller ID names, numbers, time, and date at a glance — even Call Waiting. The oversized LCD tilts for the perfect viewing angle, reducing strain for seniors and anyone with vision needs
- Oversized Big Buttons — Large, high-contrast keys are easy to read and press — ideal for elderly users, arthritis, or low vision. Simple, frustration-free dialing every time
- Hands-Free Speakerphone — Talk and listen comfortably without holding the handset. Perfect for multitasking, note-taking, or including the whole family in the conversation
- Reliable Corded Design with Audio Assist — Works even during power outages. Audio Assist temporarily boosts volume and clarity for better hearing, plus an extra-loud ringer with visual flashing indicator
That standards definition should not be assumed to describe every provider feature called follow-me. In business phone and PBX products, the label commonly refers to a user’s calls being routed among alternative destinations.
How can a follow-me service route calls?
There is no single required routing pattern. A service might use one or more of these approaches:
Rank #2
- Senior-Friendly Big Buttons & Display: Extra-large buttons and a tiltable display make dialing and reading easy for seniors or anyone with vision challenges — no more squinting or misdials.
- Hands-Free Speakerphone: Enjoy clear conversations without holding the receiver; perfect for multitasking or group calls at home.
- Audio Assist Volume Boost: Amplifies incoming sound for easier hearing — great for users with hearing difficulties.
- Reliable Corded Operation: Works without AC power for basic calls during outages or emergencies; Caller ID requires 4 AA batteries (not included).
- Caller ID and Call Waiting: See incoming caller names and numbers on the large display with a 50-name/number history for effective call screening.
- One destination: forward calls from a stable or virtual number to a configured number.
- Several destinations at once: make multiple configured phones ring simultaneously.
- Sequential destinations: try one destination, then another if the first does not answer.
- Conditional routing: send calls elsewhere when a phone is busy, offline or unregistered, unreachable, or unanswered.
- Scheduled routing: use different destinations or rules during configured periods.
These are implementation choices, not guarantees implied by the name. For example, PortaOne documents follow-me handling for unregistered phones, errors, and unanswered calls, with destinations that can be associated with time periods. AccessDirect describes simultaneous and sequential ringing, including schedules. Those examples show possible configurations, not universal behavior.
What should you check before choosing or setting one up?
Follow-me services vary by carrier, PBX, and configuration. Before relying on one, check the provider’s documentation for the details that affect how calls will actually reach you:

- Whether it supports just one forwarding destination or multiple destinations.
- Whether those destinations ring together or in a sequence.
- Which conditions trigger routing, such as busy, no answer, offline status, or a schedule.
- Whether you or an administrator can change destinations remotely.
- Which destination types and geographic locations are supported.
- How forwarded-call charges, caller ID, and voicemail are handled.
- How the feature is provisioned and activated for your specific service.
There is no universal activation code, billing rule, supported destination list, or caller-ID behavior established by the term alone. Confirm those details with your carrier or phone-system administrator rather than relying on instructions for a different provider.

No. A calendar can be used in a particular system to choose a call destination, but that is a specialized design rather than a standard feature of follow-me services. One patent describes a calendar-integrated implementation; its existence does not mean an ordinary carrier or PBX service consults your calendar.
