Unsloth says it checks a selected Hugging Face model repository before running its custom code, but its public security overview does not say whether changing a repository revokes an earlier approval or triggers a fresh check. Treat that specific behavior as undocumented: the overview does not describe revision pinning, commit or hash comparisons, or approval-cache invalidation. It does say that custom code still requires your permission, even when the scanner finds nothing worrying.
What Unsloth says happens before custom repository code runs
In its October 6, 2026 security overview, Unsloth says Studio checks a selected Hugging Face repository before running custom code. It describes blocking code that attempts behaviors such as opening a reverse shell, accessing cloud metadata, or stealing credentials. It also says Studio checks Hugging Face’s malware-scan status. Unsloth’s security overview is the source for these product claims.
These are checks described by the vendor, not proof that every malicious behavior will be detected. The overview does not publish a broad measure of repository-scanning effectiveness.
Does a repository change reset trust or trigger another check?
The public overview does not explain what happens if a repository changes after you have approved it. It does not state whether Studio revokes prior approval, detects changed files, pins a revision, compares commits or hashes, or invalidates cached scan results. The supported answer is therefore limited: Unsloth says checks occur before custom code runs, but the precise change-and-reapproval lifecycle is not documented in that overview.

Do not assume that a clean scan or an earlier approval guarantees the state of a later repository revision. If the exact revision matters for your workflow, verify what revision Studio is selecting and consult current product documentation or Unsloth support for the approval behavior; the published overview does not settle that detail.
A clean scan is not permission to execute
Unsloth says custom repository code requires user permission even when its scanner finds nothing concerning. Scanning and approval serve different purposes: the scan is a security check, while approval is the user’s authorization for custom code to run. A clean result is not a guarantee of safety and does not, by itself, authorize execution.

What the malware-scan example does—and does not—show
Unsloth describes an example involving an EICAR test repository: Studio blocked it, listed unsafe files, and warned that those files had not been downloaded. This illustrates the reported behavior for that test; it should not be read as a guarantee that all unsafe repositories will be identified or blocked.

Other controls around code execution
Execution isolation
Unsloth says code execution uses bubblewrap on Linux, Seatbelt on macOS, and MXC on Windows. These are operating-system sandbox mechanisms intended to constrain execution; they do not answer whether a changed repository resets approval.
Approval modes
The security overview describes ask, auto, and full approval modes. In auto mode, network and filesystem imports are flagged for approval, and file paths require approval. Those controls govern approvals during execution; they are distinct from the repository scan and from the unresolved question of how changed repository content affects prior trust.

Remote access and shared installations
Unsloth warns that tools still run as the operating-system user. Someone who has an API key and network access could execute code on the machine, so remote access should be protected accordingly. For shared installations, Unsloth says managed accounts are limited to their own folders, cannot access the owner’s Hugging Face token, require the owner’s grant to use models, and are blocked from running repository code. See the vendor’s security overview for its descriptions of these controls.
Historical model-inspection vulnerability report
Separately from the vendor’s overview, security researcher Pillar Security reported that a Studio model-inspection path could execute remote repository code during model-configuration inspection in versions through 2026.5.10. Pillar Security said its retesting found the vector closed in version 2026.6.9. This is the researcher’s version-specific account, published September 29, 2026—not a current independent test of later versions or an official vendor advisory. Read Pillar Security’s report for its account of the issue.
