In DMZ, a completed death generally costs the nonpermanent items you are carrying in your Backpack. Contraband weapons are the main weapons permanently lost; a Weapon Blueprint is temporarily unavailable instead. A Secure Backpack has a specific exception for eligible items. The official DMZ material cited here does not confirm what happens to gear after an unintended disconnect or whether you can rejoin.
What happens if you die in DMZ?
Call of Duty Staff described DMZ as a single-life mode in its November 14, 2022 overview: dying results in the loss of nonpermanent items in your Backpack. The consequence depends on what you have with you. The official overview identifies Contraband weapons as the main items permanently lost on death. A Weapon Blueprint is not permanently lost, but becomes inaccessible for a period, usually a few hours. The source does not give a more precise duration.

What does the Secure Backpack protect?
Call of Duty’s Season 03 overview (2023) says a Secure Backpack protects eligible items between runs and that items in it are kept to that Active Duty Soldier if the Operator is eliminated in an Extraction Zone. The stated rule is limited: it concerns eligible items in the Secure Backpack and that soldier. What if you miss the final exfil?
The launch overview says Operators still present when the final exfil leaves are listed as MIA. That is not described as a successful extraction: the source says items are put into Storage when extracted, not when an Operator is listed MIA. Call of Duty’s DMZ overview

The official DMZ overview and Secure Backpack description cited here do not establish whether an unintended disconnect counts as a death, preserves your gear, or allows a DMZ rejoin. Call of Duty’s Season 04 patch notes discuss a reconnect window for Ranked Play, but that is a separate mode and does not confirm a DMZ reconnect rule. Season 04 patch notes

So, the supported answer is conditional: the published DMZ rules explain completed death, extraction, and a narrow Secure Backpack exception, but they do not settle the outcome of an accidental disconnect. The cited official explanations date from 2022 and 2023 and do not verify whether every mechanic remains unchanged in the game today.
