Starlink service may be interrupted if Starlink or its local operating company loses a required government authorization; Starlink’s terms reserve the right to suspend or terminate access in that situation. If only a reseller loses its appointment, that may stop it from selling or supporting service, but available official sources do not establish that every existing customer is automatically disconnected. The outcome depends on the country, the approval involved, any regulator order, and the customer’s contract.
First identify who lost approval—and which approval
“Local approval” can mean several different things. A satellite or network operating authorization, a local service-provider license, equipment approval, a user-eligibility rule, and a reseller’s appointment are distinct matters. Losing one does not, by itself, prove that all the others have been revoked.
- Starlink or its local operating company: Loss of a required authorization to provide service can put service availability at risk. Starlink’s country-specific consumer terms may permit suspension or termination.
- A reseller or distributor: Loss of its appointment can prevent it from selling, marketing, activating, installing, or supporting Starlink service under local rules. It does not establish a universal automatic disconnection rule for accounts already in use.
- Equipment or user eligibility: A restriction on approved terminals or eligible customer types can affect who may use service even if a provider or distributor has a separate authorization.
For example, Lebanon’s regulator addresses licensing conditions, user eligibility, equipment approval, and distributor appointment separately in its Starlink FAQ.

If the approval lost is one Starlink needs to operate in the country, the company’s terms and the regulator’s action matter. Starlink terms surfaced for Ecuador say it may immediately suspend or terminate some or all account access if required governmental authorizations are not obtained or maintained. That is an example of country-specific terms, not a guarantee that identical wording governs every account. Check the terms for the country linked to your account.

If only the local reseller has lost approval, the immediate effect may concern new sales, activation, installation, or support through that reseller. The official sources available here do not establish whether existing customers will remain connected, be transferred to a direct Starlink account, or be disconnected. Those outcomes depend on the local notice and the customer’s agreement; do not assume a transfer, grace period, or refund.
A regulator may order a stop, not just deny new sales
The practical effect depends on what the regulator actually directs. An order may prohibit new subscriptions, restrict a reseller, or require service to stop. Read the order for its effective date, territory, covered services, affected users, and any transition arrangements.

India provides a dated example of a direct stop instruction. On November 30, 2021, the Ministry of Communications said Starlink lacked the required authorization for services being booked, directed the company to refrain from booking or rendering service “with immediate effect,” and advised the public not to subscribe. This demonstrates that a regulator can demand an immediate halt; it does not establish India’s current authorization status.

| Example | Official action or rule | What it means for customers |
|---|---|---|
| Starlink terms surfaced for Ecuador | Starlink reserves the right to suspend or terminate some or all account access for failure to obtain or maintain necessary government authorizations. | Interruption is permitted under those terms in the stated circumstance. Check the terms that apply to your country and account. |
| India, November 30, 2021 | The Ministry of Communications directed Starlink to stop booking or rendering service with immediate effect, based on the authorization issue described in its notice. | A stop order can have immediate practical consequences. The notice is historical and does not establish present-day status. |
| Lebanon, current framework described in TRA materials | TRA Decision 2/2026 was published in the Official Gazette on January 22, 2026. The TRA FAQ, published March 17, 2026, and last modified September 23, 2026, describes licensing, user, distribution, and equipment conditions. | Local limits can govern who may subscribe and who may distribute service. These conditions apply to Lebanon, not globally. |
In its FAQ last modified September 23, 2026, Lebanon’s TRA says residential and individual subscriptions are not authorized under the current framework and tourist or visitor roaming is not permitted. It names Alfa as the official distributor and says a company may not provide Starlink service or equipment in Lebanon unless formally appointed by Starlink and compliant with Lebanese requirements. Those are Lebanon-specific rules.

What to check if your provider loses approval
- Identify the entity in the notice. Determine whether it names Starlink, a local Starlink operating company, or only a reseller or distributor.
- Read the regulator’s notice. Check which authorization is affected, where and when the action applies, whether it covers existing service or only new sales, and whether a transition period is specified.
- Check your account’s country-specific terms and messages. Look for a direct email or account notice from Starlink. Terms differ by country and can change.
- Ask Starlink support about your account. Confirm whether it remains active, whether a transfer is available, and how billing or refunds will be handled. Rely on a transfer, refund, or grace period only if the applicable terms or notice confirms it.
- Do not treat hardware or roaming as a workaround. A Starlink kit is the physical antenna, router, and mount; it cannot preserve service where service is not authorized or available. Local rules can also prohibit roaming or imported terminals. Lebanon’s FAQ, for example, prohibits visitor roaming and private terminal importation.
