Removing a game from sale on Steam stops new purchases through its Store listing; it does not, by itself, mean existing owners lose their account entitlement. Owned DLC is likewise treated as part of the game, but continued downloads and play can still depend on the game’s files, DRM, compatibility, and online services.
What delisting changes—and what it does not
A delisting changes the game’s store availability: new customers can no longer buy it through the removed listing. That is different from removing a purchase entitlement already registered to an account. Valve’s guidance describes access-loss cases such as a revoked activation key or a refunded gift separately; it does not identify ordinary delisting as a reason an existing purchase is automatically revoked.

That distinction does not guarantee that every part of a game will remain usable indefinitely. A title may rely on publisher-hosted servers, DRM checks, compatible operating systems, or downloadable files that are subject to separate availability decisions. Valve’s product-removal guidance tells publishers to explain what players should expect, particularly when hosted servers will no longer be available.

Often, an existing owner can continue to launch a game that remains in their Library, but delisting alone cannot establish whether a particular title will remain playable. Offline-capable games may be less dependent on a publisher’s ongoing service than games whose core features require hosted servers. DRM, operating-system compatibility, and the game’s own technical design can also affect whether it launches.

How to check whether you own or have installed DLC
Steamworks describes owned DLC as integral to its game. To check a specific account, use the Steam client:

- Sign in to the account that bought the game or DLC.
- Open Library and select the game. Look for its DLC section; alternatively, open the game’s Properties and select DLC.
- Review the DLC registered to the account and its installation status. Use the DLC controls there to manage or install owned content where available.
The Library and Properties views are the practical way to confirm what Steam recognizes for the signed-in account. Valve’s DLC documentation explains that owned DLC is treated as part of the game, and Steam Support’s DLC instructions describe where to find and manage it.
Can you buy DLC after the base game is delisted?
There is no universal answer established by Steam’s general guidance. DLC may be shown on a game’s Store page or discoverable through search when offered, but that does not guarantee that a particular add-on remains for sale after its base game is removed. Its listing and rights can vary by title. Check the specific DLC listing and your purchase history rather than assuming it is still purchasable—or unavailable.

If a purchased game appears to be missing
A missing Library entry does not necessarily mean the game was delisted or removed from your account. Check the following in order:
- Confirm that Steam is signed in to the account used for the purchase.
- Clear any Library filters and check the Hidden Games list.
- Look in purchase history for the completed transaction.
- If the purchase is shown but the game is not, sign out and back in, then check the Library again.
If Steam reports that access was revoked, that is a different situation from ordinary delisting. Steam says a publisher can revoke an activation key, for example if it was time-limited or obtained fraudulently. A gift may also be removed if refunded because of fraud or a payment dispute. Review the account’s purchase details and any Steam notices to identify the specific reason.

Does delisting mean you get a refund?
No automatic refund entitlement for every delisting is established by Steam’s general policy. Steam’s standard refund policy, last updated April 23, 2024, generally allows requests for games within 14 days of purchase when playtime is under two hours. For DLC, the policy generally requires a request within 14 days, less than two hours of play in the underlying game since the DLC purchase, and that the DLC has not been consumed, modified, or transferred. Store pages may identify exceptions, and the policy notes that consumers in some jurisdictions may have additional rights for faulty games. See Steam’s refund policy for current terms and the applicable purchase details.

Separately, Valve’s product-removal guidance says it may offer refunds when a developer cancels or retires a game. That possibility is not the same as a promise that every delisted title will be refunded; check the publisher’s announcement and Steam’s notice for the game.
