Guerrilla RF acquired Gallium Semiconductor’s GaN device designs and related intellectual property—not the company itself. The asset deal took effect April 26, 2024, and covered released products as well as GaN designs still in development. Guerrilla RF’s current catalog lists GaN-on-SiC transistors and amplifiers for applications including radar, 5G infrastructure, and satellite communications.

What did Guerrilla RF acquire?

The transaction became effective April 26, 2024, and Guerrilla RF announced it on April 29. Its scope was Gallium Semiconductor’s portfolio of gallium nitride (GaN) power amplifiers and front-end modules: released parts, development cores, and associated intellectual property. Guerrilla RF described the deal as a way to expand and accelerate its GaN product development for wireless infrastructure, military, and satellite communications. Those were intended applications, not a guarantee of commercial results. Guerrilla RF’s announcement

Guerrilla RF’s 2024 Form 10-Q characterizes the transaction as an asset acquisition. It reports $0.4 million in cash consideration, funded from cash on hand, and says no employees or facilities were acquired. The filing records a $0.4 million definite-lived developed-technology intangible asset to be amortized over 10 years. Guerrilla RF’s 2024 Form 10-Q

That distinction matters: this was an acquisition of technology and product assets from Gallium Semiconductor, not an acquisition of Gallium Semiconductor as a whole.

Why add GaN to Guerrilla RF’s portfolio?

Guerrilla RF said the acquisition would broaden its RF signal-chain offering beyond its existing InGaP HBT and GaAs pHEMT amplifier lines, which the announcement described as aimed at 2 W and below. The inherited GaN portfolio was presented as covering higher-power RF needs for infrastructure, defense, and satellite systems.

At the time of the announcement, Gallium Semiconductor CEO Henk Thoonen described the portfolio as ranging from unmatched transistors to integrated asymmetric Doherty power amplifiers, with peak rated power from 5 W to 400 W. That is an announcement-era description of the acquired portfolio, not a specification for every device Guerrilla RF currently lists. EE Times’ coverage of the announcement

Guerrilla RF also cited market forecasts attributed to Yole Group in the announcement: an RF GaN device market growing from $1.3 billion in 2022 to $2.7 billion by 2028, with projected compound annual growth rates of 10% for telecom infrastructure, 13% for military, and 18% for satellite communications. These were forecasts cited in 2024, not confirmed market results; the figures were not independently verified against Yole’s original report. EE Times’ coverage of the announcement

What GaN products does Guerrilla RF list now?

Guerrilla RF’s current catalog lists GaN-on-silicon-carbide (GaN-on-SiC) power transistors and amplifiers, spanning near-DC to 12 GHz and offered in bare-die and packaged formats. Listed use cases include radar, electronic warfare and jamming, 5G base-station transmit chains, satellite communications, industrial heating in ISM bands, and test and measurement. A catalog listing does not by itself establish that every part is in production or immediately available; check the individual product page, datasheet, and sales channel. One catalog example is GRF0010, an unmatched discrete GaN-on-SiC HEMT. Guerrilla RF lists 0–8 GHz coverage, 14.5 dB gain, 42.0 dBm saturated output power, and 62% power-added efficiency (PAE) under its stated reference conditions. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent test results. Guerrilla RF’s GaN product catalog

How should engineers compare the devices?

Start with the application’s operating band and required output behavior. Peak or saturated output power alone may not answer whether a device suits a design; the relevant linear output metric can matter more in a system with strict signal-quality requirements. Then compare efficiency, gain, device format, and the design trade-offs of the matching approach.

  • Frequency range: Confirm the actual operating band against the datasheet rather than assuming a device suits every use listed for the portfolio.
  • Power and linearity: Check saturated output power (Psat) and the relevant linear output metric for the application.
  • Efficiency and gain: Compare PAE and gain at the conditions that matter to the design.
  • Format and thermal design: Determine whether bare die or a packaged part fits the assembly, thermal path, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Matching approach: Guerrilla RF says unmatched discrete HEMTs offer more matching-network flexibility and bandwidth. Pre-matched and dual-path parts can speed design for a target band, with less flexibility.

For a specific design-in decision, use the individual device datasheet and consult the manufacturer’s applications support; a broad application list is not proof that a part is suitable for a particular circuit. Guerrilla RF’s GaN product catalog

What the announcement does—and does not—establish

Guerrilla RF CEO and founder Ryan Pratt said in the 2024 announcement that “integrating GaN technology into our expanding portfolio is imperative” as the company evolved as an RFIC and MMIC supplier. Thoonen said merging the products was “expected to be fast and seamless.” These statements explain management’s rationale and expectations at the time; they do not establish integration speed, product performance beyond published specifications, or commercial results.

The clearest current evidence of the portfolio’s product direction is Guerrilla RF’s own catalog. For technical selection, use its current product details and datasheets rather than treating the announcement’s 5 W–400 W range as a specification for all current models.
