On a college football injury report, GTD usually means “Game-Time Decision”: the player’s availability is still uncertain. It does not confirm that he will play, and it does not mean he is definitely out. Check the latest team or conference update for the player’s eventual status.
What does GTD mean?
In football roster and injury-report usage, GTD commonly expands to “Game-Time Decision.” A football-roster glossary uses the term for a decision about whether a player dresses or starts: CFLdb’s football glossary. A Hamilton Tiger-Cats depth-chart legend states, “GTD DENOTES GAME TIME DECISION,” in an August 26, 2022 document. That is a Canadian Football League example, not an NCAA rule: Hamilton Tiger-Cats depth chart (PDF).
Does GTD mean the player will play?
No. GTD signals that the decision has not been settled; it is not a promise of an appearance or confirmation that the player is out. The player’s status may become clearer as game time approaches.

Is GTD a universal NCAA status code?
The available college-football examples do not establish GTD as a uniform NCAA-mandated designation. Current reporting sometimes describes a player as a “game-time call” based on a conference availability report. For example, RotoWire used that wording for Kansas player Cam Pickett in connection with the Big 12 availability report on September 19, 2026, and Wisconsin player Bryan Jackson in connection with the Big Ten availability report on September 26, 2026: Kansas report and Wisconsin report. These are media accounts of conference-report context, not proof that every team or conference uses GTD as a formal code.

GTD also appears in other sports, but those definitions should not be treated as college-football policy. RotoWire’s data dictionary describes the term as undecided pending assessment closer to game time and says its terminology mirrors official NBA usage: RotoWire player-status definitions.

How to find out whether the player is available
- Check the latest team or conference availability update. Prefer the most recent report over an older GTD label.
- Look for an updated status as kickoff approaches. Availability can change, and the sources do not establish one reporting schedule or decision deadline for all college teams.
- Read the report’s own terminology. Status labels and their use can differ; do not assume another league’s injury-report conventions apply.
