GTA 6 has a system Rockstar calls Criminal Profile, not a confirmed good-versus-evil honor meter. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson says it assesses what kind of criminal you are—more professional or more violent and dangerous—and may influence how people and the wider world respond. The game has not yet been released, so its exact rules and outcomes remain unknown.
What is GTA 6’s Criminal Profile?
Nelson described Criminal Profile as GTA’s first system for tracking some player actions. Its focus, as he explained it, is the player’s criminal style rather than a simple measure of moral virtue. In the English translation of a Famitsu interview, he said the system evaluates whether the player is “more of a professional criminal” or “violent and dangerous.” The translation cautions that nuances may differ from the original Japanese. Rockstar has not published a full ruleset, score, or official scale of honor ranks. “Honor system” is therefore a useful comparison for players familiar with Red Dead Redemption 2, but it is not the confirmed name or a precise description of GTA 6’s mechanic.

The developer’s examples point to restraint and control as important contrasts to repeated, unnecessary aggression. Criminal Profile is not described as a simple tally in which any violent act automatically makes the player “bad.”

Controlled, efficient crime
Nelson used a jewelry-store robbery as an example: even if the player shoots someone, handling the situation well and escaping quickly can lean toward a more professional style. The relevant distinction is the overall approach, not an absolute rule that a professional criminal never uses force. Famitsu’s translated interview.
Repeated unnecessary escalation
GamesRadar’s interview-based report says required mission behavior and proportionate self-defense are “all fair game.” Nelson said consistently going beyond what is necessary, or repeatedly doing unnecessary things, may sway the profile in a direction. How could people and the world respond?
Nelson says the assessment can influence whether people around the player and the wider world respond aggressively. He also gave an example in which aggressive conduct toward police or other people can prompt an aggressive response. Rockstar has not explained precisely which characters react, what changes in play, or how long a particular response lasts, so those details should not be treated as established mechanics.
Are GTA 6’s reported honor ranks official?
PC Gamer reported four main states—Professional, Aggressive, Violent, and Psycho—and a difficult-to-reach “shattered” state, based on a preview source’s findings. That list is reported preview information, not a complete official scale confirmed in Nelson’s interview or Rockstar’s public game page. Does Criminal Profile work like Red Dead Redemption 2 Honor?
Nelson said Criminal Profile shares some features with Red Dead Redemption 2’s Honor system, but he distinguished the GTA 6 mechanic by its focus on the type of criminal the player becomes and the resulting response from people and the world. He also said Rockstar did not carry over Honor’s store-discount mechanic. The available description does not establish a broader one-to-one mapping between the games’ systems.

What is confirmed about GTA 6’s release?
As of October 3, 2026, Rockstar’s official game page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and gives November 19, 2026 as the release date. That date is subject to change.
