Google Find Hub can locate eligible Android phones, tablets, watches, headphones, Android XR devices and compatible Bluetooth tracker tags attached to belongings. It may show a live connection, a recent location stored on the device, or an encrypted detection supplied by another participating Android device. That map pin is not a guarantee of continuous, real-time tracking. Whether anything appears depends on the item, battery, network connection, Bluetooth and Location settings, offline-finding choice, nearby Android devices and tag compatibility.
What Google Find Hub is actually locating
Find Hub reports the location of an electronic device or accessory. For a keyring, suitcase, wallet or bicycle, it locates the compatible tracker tag attached to the object; the object itself has no searchable signal. An untagged set of keys cannot be found by Find Hub simply because it is nearby.
The service can present three different kinds of information:
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Last known location: the most recent location stored before the item went offline.
- Network detection: a participating Android device detected the item over Bluetooth and sent an encrypted report.
Those labels matter when deciding whether to walk to the pin, retrace your route or wait for a newer report.

Items Find Hub can locate
Android phones and tablets
For an eligible Android phone or tablet, Find Hub can display a map, provide directions and, where supported, offer nearby guidance. You can play a sound, mark the device as lost with a lock-screen message and contact details, or erase it remotely. Securing or erasing requires the device to have power, be signed in to a Google Account, have Find Hub enabled, have mobile data or Wi-Fi and be visible on Google Play.
Wear OS watches
Find Hub supports Wear OS watches. Google’s device guidance says a watch needs Wi-Fi or mobile data for locating, securing or erasing actions. A watch that is disconnected, powered off or out of coverage may show only an earlier location, if one was saved.
Android XR devices, headphones and Fast Pair accessories
Google includes Android XR devices, headphones and other compatible Fast Pair accessories among supported Find Hub items. The exact functions depend on the accessory model and its connection state. Wireless headphones must be turned on, and the earbuds must be out of their charging case, for them to play a sound.

A Find Hub-compatible tag extends the service to items such as keys, wallets, luggage and bikes. The tag’s radio and battery are what report the location. Compatibility is model-specific: a manufacturer’s entire product range is not automatically supported, and an ordinary Bluetooth tag cannot be assumed to work with Find Hub.
A device belonging to someone else
The owner of a lost device can use guest mode on another Android device or a browser. The owner signs in with their Google Account, and the lost device may receive a notification that it was selected. Guest access does not transfer ownership of the device or its location data.

Can Find Hub find a phone that is offline?
Sometimes. Offline status means Find Hub cannot currently communicate with the item in the ordinary way; it does not always mean that no location is available. The map can use a recent encrypted location saved while the item was online or a later Bluetooth detection from the Find Hub network.
Network finding works when participating Android devices scan for nearby items over Bluetooth and transmit encrypted location reports. The owner may see the approximate time of the last report. A report cannot be created if no participating device detects the item, so coverage is generally less dependable in remote or quiet areas than in places with many Android devices.

What happens after power-off
Google documents a limited exception for supported phones such as the Pixel 8 series. Finding can continue for several hours after shutdown when the offline setting is With network in busy places only or With network everywhere, and Bluetooth and Location were enabled when the phone powered down. This is model- and configuration-dependent; it is not indefinite powered-off tracking and should not be generalized to every Android phone.
Offline-finding settings and their trade-offs
Google provides four choices. They determine whether your own device participates in the network, whether it can benefit from other Android devices’ detections, whether tracker tags can be found and whether network assistance extends into remote areas.
| Setting | Your device participates in the network? | Can benefit from other Android detections? | Tracker-tag finding | Coverage described by Google |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Off | No | No network assistance | Not available through offline network | No network finding |
| Without network | No broader network participation | Uses recent encrypted locations stored while the item was online | Cannot locate tracker tags through the network | Limited to stored recent locations |
| With network in busy places only | Yes | Yes, where network detections are available | Supported tags can use network finding | Network help in busy places |
| With network everywhere | Yes | Yes | Supported tags can use network finding | Busy places and remote areas |
Google says network finding requires a screen lock—a PIN, pattern or password—for the relevant protections. The setting names and behavior can vary by device support and account configuration, so check the Find Hub controls on the specific phone.

What Find Hub cannot promise
No continuous live trail
Find Hub is not a continuously refreshed location feed. If an item is offline, the pin may be the last online location or the last network detection. A fresh position appears only after the item reconnects or a participating Android device detects it over Bluetooth and delivers a report.
Recommended Free Tools
No search for an untagged object
There is no Find Hub signal from an ordinary suitcase, camera bag or set of keys. Attach a compatible tracker tag before losing the item if you want network-based location for it.
No owner-lookup history for another person’s tracker
Android’s unknown-tracker alert map shows detections made as a tracker traveled with your phone. It does not reveal where the tracker’s owner checked its position in their own app.
AirTag alerts are not Find Hub ownership
Android can warn that certain trackers, including AirTags, may be moving with you. That safety alert does not turn the AirTag into an owner-side Find Hub item. Detecting a potentially unwanted tracker and locating your own tagged possession are separate functions.
Why the location can be missing, stale or wide
Google lists several conditions that prevent a current device location: the battery is depleted or the device is turned off; there is no mobile or Wi-Fi connection; the device is damaged; it is in airplane mode; or Wi-Fi is disabled. A last known location may still remain even when a new one cannot be obtained. A factory-reset Android device is no longer available in Find Hub.

The map is an estimate, not a promise that the item is exactly under the pin. Google says GPS can be accurate to around 20 meters in favorable conditions, but can be inaccurate indoors or underground. Nearby Wi-Fi networks and cell towers also contribute; mobile-data positioning may be accurate only within a few thousand meters. Treat the displayed radius as an indication of confidence and search the entire area it covers.
Set up Find Hub before you lose anything
- On each Android device, open Find Hub settings. Confirm that Find Hub is enabled, the device is signed in to the intended Google Account and the phone can use mobile data or Wi-Fi.
- Choose an offline-finding mode. Select Off, Without network, With network in busy places only or With network everywhere according to the coverage and participation trade-off you accept.
- Use a screen lock. Set a PIN, pattern or password if network-finding protections require one.
- Keep Bluetooth and Location available. They are needed for nearby detection and, on supported phones, for the documented post-shutdown behavior.
- Check accessories individually. Pair supported headphones, watches and Fast Pair accessories, then confirm that the specific tracker-tag model is listed as compatible before attaching it to an important item.
- Test recovery actions while the device is in your possession. Verify that the map, sound and lost-device controls appear. Testing also reveals whether an accessory must be powered on or removed from its case to respond.
Recover a missing device without destroying its data
Use the least destructive action that fits the situation:
- Read the time and radius of the latest location. Decide whether it is current, a stored recent location or a network detection.
- Play a sound. This is useful when the device is nearby and powered on. For wireless earbuds, they must be out of the case.
- Follow directions or nearby guidance where supported. Search the surrounding radius rather than assuming the pin is exact.
- Mark the device as lost. Add a lock-screen message and a way to contact you while keeping the device secured.
- Erase only when recovery is no longer a realistic option. Remote erasure deletes device data and removes the device from Find Hub. Google notes that an SD card may not be erased, so consider any removable storage separately.
Sharing a lost accessory’s location
For a compatible lost accessory or tag, you can mark it lost and provide a phone number, email address and message. When the tag is not nearby, Find Hub can create a web link for its location. Google says the link expires after seven days; anyone who has the link and a Google Account can access the shared location and lost-item contact details. One of the owner’s devices must be online to provide updates, so sharing does not create an independent live connection to the tag.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Unknown-tracker alerts and personal safety
Android can alert you when a compatible tracker appears to be traveling with you. The alert can show where the tracker was detected, play a sound and, for compatible Find Hub tags, provide nearby guidance. Playing the sound does not notify the tracker’s owner.
If the alert makes you feel unsafe, move to a safe public place and contact law enforcement or someone you trust. Turning off Bluetooth, turning off Location or enabling airplane mode on your phone does not disable the tracker itself or stop it from reporting to its owner. Follow the tracker manufacturer’s shutdown instructions instead.

Privacy: encrypted reports, not “no data”
Google says the Find Hub network encrypts item locations with a unique key that can be unlocked only by entering the owner’s Android PIN, pattern or password. The company says locations are private from Google and visible to the owner and people with whom the item is shared. It also describes temporary device identifiers and timestamps used to deliver reports and prevent abuse.
The precise claim supported by Google’s documentation is that location reports are end-to-end encrypted and Google says it cannot identify the person whose Android device supplied a detection. That is narrower than saying the service collects no data.
Choosing a tracker tag
Search for a tag explicitly documented as compatible with Google Find Hub and verify the exact model’s current requirements. Google’s safety documentation names Chipolo CARD and ONE, Motorola moto tag, and Pebblebee Card, Clip and Tag among manufacturers in its support information. Those names do not make every product from those manufacturers compatible; confirm the model before purchase.
Battery type and replacement procedure vary by tag. Google directs owners to the tag manufacturer for battery information, so do not assume a particular cell or replacement interval. A tag with a flat battery cannot provide a new detection even if the Find Hub account and phone settings are correct.
A practical decision guide
- Lost phone online: use the current map, ring it, secure it and erase only as a last resort.
- Lost phone offline: inspect the last-seen time, keep checking for a network report and search the displayed radius.
- Lost keys or luggage: Find Hub helps only if a compatible tag was attached and still has power.
- Item in a remote area: With network everywhere offers broader network participation than the busy-places setting, but still depends on detections and cannot guarantee a report.
- Unexpected tracker alert: use the alert’s map and sound for safety investigation; do not treat it as evidence of the owner’s lookup history.
The bottom line
Google Find Hub can locate supported Android devices and compatible tagged belongings, including when an item is offline and a recent or crowdsourced report exists. It cannot locate an untagged object, guarantee a live position or overcome an empty battery, missing connectivity, unsupported hardware or absent network detections. Set the offline mode, screen lock, Bluetooth and Location deliberately, verify each tag model, and interpret every pin as an estimate with a time attached.
