First National Bank of Omaha purchased a ClearEdge Power PureCell Model 400 for its First National Technology Center in Omaha, Nebraska. ClearEdge announced the purchase on November 21, 2013, describing the system as a 400 kW unit that provides heat and power. The announcement confirms a purchase; it does not establish when the specific unit was commissioned or whether it remains in service.
What did the bank purchase?
The bank selected a PureCell Model 400 from ClearEdge Power for its First National Technology Center data center. ClearEdge’s November 21, 2013 announcement called it a 400 kW heat-and-power system. The U.S. Department of Energy’s 2013 Fuel Cell Technologies Market Report, published in 2014, also lists the bank’s project at 400 kW and identifies the PureCell Model 400 as a phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC). The company’s announcement quoted Brenda Dooley, then president of First National Buildings, describing the bank’s experience with its earlier fuel cells: “We have had a great experience with the reliability afforded our data center operations since installing our first fuel cells in 1999.” The quotation concerns the earlier equipment, not the performance of the newly purchased Model 400.
How was the purchase different from the bank’s earlier fuel-cell installation?
The bank had used fuel cells at the data center since 1999. A Department of Energy case study describes that earlier installation as four 200 kW PAFC units, totaling 800 kW, supplying primary power to four rotary UPS units. Two separate natural-gas distribution sources provided fuel redundancy. That system is distinct from the single 400 kW Model 400 purchase announced in 2013. U.S. Department of Energy case study

For the earlier installation, DOE reports more than 89,000 operating hours from May 1999 through October 2009 and 99.9999% availability during the case study’s reporting scope. Those figures describe the earlier system and period; they are not operating results for the 2013 purchase.
What emissions benefit did ClearEdge announce?
ClearEdge said the new system would prevent the release of more than 1,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually. This was a projected benefit stated in the company’s 2013 announcement, not a verified measurement of the purchased unit’s subsequent emissions savings. ClearEdge Power announcement via PR Newswire

Why does a current PureCell page list a different capacity?
Doosan Fuel Cell’s current PureCell Model 400 NG product page lists a 440 kW rating and 90% total efficiency, split into 43% electrical and 47% heat. It describes a current product configuration; it does not establish that these specifications apply to the unit the bank purchased in 2013. Was the 2013 unit installed, and is it still operating?
The available transaction and DOE sources establish that the bank purchased the Model 400, but do not establish its commissioning date, later ownership or service history, or operating status in 2026. The DOE operating-hours and availability figures apply to the earlier installation only, so they cannot answer whether the 2013 unit was commissioned or remains operational.
