After a typhoon in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), possible help includes FEMA Individual Assistance, SBA disaster loans, and territorial programs for needs such as food, energy, child care, and housing. Which options apply depends on the disaster declaration, the affected island, the program, and your circumstances. FEMA’s disaster map for declaration FEMA-4910-DR, dated April 23, 2026, shows Individual Assistance designated in CNMI, but it does not establish whether applications are still open or whether a particular loss qualifies.
Start by checking the disaster declaration and deadline
Assistance is tied to a specific disaster declaration and designated locations; damage from a typhoon does not automatically qualify for federal aid. FEMA’s FEMA-4910-DR page has a declaration map dated April 23, 2026, showing Individual Assistance for CNMI. The map also shows Public Assistance Categories A and B and notes that additional designations may be made later if requested and supported by further evaluation.
Use DisasterAssistance.gov and FEMA’s live declaration information to check current application instructions, covered islands, and deadlines before applying. The map alone does not say whether the Individual Assistance filing period remains open, what losses are eligible, or how an individual application will be decided.

Federal assistance options
FEMA Individual Assistance for households
Individual Assistance is the household-facing federal pathway shown for CNMI on the FEMA-4910-DR map. It is not a blanket payment for all typhoon damage: eligibility and covered needs depend on the declaration and the applicant’s circumstances. Check the live FEMA page and DisasterAssistance.gov for the current application process and deadline, and follow those instructions rather than assuming the map confirms eligibility.
SBA disaster loans for affected residents and businesses
FEMA’s CNMI referral directory lists the SBA Disaster Customer Service Center and describes low-interest disaster loans for affected homeowners, renters, and business owners. Unlike a grant, an SBA disaster loan must be repaid. FEMA’s historical Super Typhoon Yutu recovery information explains that SBA loans can support longer-term repair or rebuilding of damaged private property and replacement of personal property. That material is historical, not a statement of current loan terms or availability; check SBA’s current instructions for the specific declaration, including eligibility, repayment terms, and deadline. Assistance is not intended to duplicate insurance or other recoveries.

CNMI programs and local referral contacts
FEMA’s CNMI directory points residents to territorial agencies for ongoing assistance programs. Those listings are referral leads, not confirmation that a program has typhoon-specific funding or is accepting applications now. Contact the agency directly to ask about current availability and eligibility.

FEMA-4910-DR’s map also designates Public Assistance Categories A and B. This is a separate track from Individual Assistance for households. FEMA training materials identify territorial and local governments and certain private nonprofits as possible Public Assistance applicants; residents should not treat this designation as a household grant application. The declaration map’s summary does not set out the full scope of eligible applicants or work. See FEMA’s Public Assistance training material for the applicant framework.
