Xbox CEO Asha Sharma’s “family of devices” language means Project Helix is being described as a next-generation hardware family, not yet as one fully specified retail console. Xbox has not announced how many devices it will include or confirmed a handheld, prices, specifications, partners, or release dates.

What Xbox has said about Project Helix

In GamesRadar+ coverage of her BBC News interview on August 29, 2026, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said: “We’ve been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Project Helix.” The same coverage reported that she had discussed playing both console and PC games on the console. Those remarks establish the broad direction, not the lineup or the rules for which games would work on which device. GamesRadar+’s report on Sharma’s BBC interview.

A later report by Pure Xbox, published October 6, 2026, attributed a longer set of remarks to Sharma at an internal town hall. It reproduced a transcript credited to Windows Central: “We are moving to a family of devices for Gen-10. There is not one device that fits all. We will certainly have a great console first, but we also know that many players will be on the go. There are some things that we are the best in the world to manufacture, and there are other things that will we partner on. So, we will be sharing more about that as our plans develop. The operating system is starting to look really good. We’re very excited about this.” Because this is reported speech from an internal meeting, it should not be treated as a formal product announcement. Pure Xbox’s October 6 report.

What “family of devices” could mean—and what it does not confirm

The wording suggests Xbox is considering multiple ways for players to access its next generation, potentially through different form factors or a mix of Xbox-made and partner hardware. That is an inference from Sharma’s remarks, not a confirmed product roadmap.

Sharma’s reference to players “on the go” makes portability a possibility to watch, but it does not confirm an Xbox-made handheld. Similarly, saying Xbox will partner on some things does not identify a manufacturer or confirm a partner-built device. “A great console first” indicates the reported sequence of plans, but gives no launch date.

The statements do not establish a Series X/S-style split, the number or names of Helix models, prices, technical specifications, disc-drive options, regional availability, or whether every device will support the same PC games. Those details remain unanswered in the public interview coverage and the reported town-hall remarks.

What players should compare when details arrive

Sharma has connected the next generation with performance, affordability, efficiency, hardware and component costs, and giving people more choice in how they play and purchase. These are stated goals and pressures—not announced prices or specifications. Once Xbox provides model-level information, these are the practical differences to examine:

  • Price and purchase options: Affordability and choice are stated concerns, but no Helix price or financing plan has been announced.
  • Performance and efficiency: Sharma named both as goals; no model-specific performance comparison is public in the sources cited here.
  • Form factor and use: The reported remarks point to a console first and mention players on the go. They do not confirm a portable model or explain its capabilities.
  • Game access: Interview coverage discussed console and PC games, but does not specify compatible titles, stores, or rules for individual devices.
  • Partner responsibilities: The town-hall report says Xbox expects to make some things and partner on others. It does not name partners or describe support arrangements.

Should you buy an Xbox now or wait for Helix?

Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are current-generation consoles, not Project Helix models. They are useful present-day comparison points because Xbox has sold more than one console option, but that history does not prove Helix will repeat the same strategy. Pure Xbox’s report identifying the current Series consoles in this context.

If you need a console now, compare the current Series X and Series S on price, performance, whether you need physical media, and the games you want to play. If you are comfortable waiting, look for model-specific Helix announcements before deciding. The available statements do not establish whether waiting will save money or deliver better value.
