When background capture is enabled in Off Grid AI Pro, the app captures what appears on your screen, reads that content on the device, and turns it into structured records: observations, entities, a day journal, and a replayable history. The vendor says capture is opt-in and shown with a visible recording indicator. Those are the company’s descriptions of its own software, not results from an independent audit, so the sections below separate what the vendor states from what its materials leave open.
What the vendor says gets recorded
The Off Grid AI GitHub repository describes the Pro “Sees” feature as a pipeline: screen capture, then OCR, then on-device language-model processing that distills the text into observations and entities. According to that description, the feature is aware of multiple monitors, classifies activity as consumption or work, and skips frames that are blank or taken while the screen is locked. The official desktop product page describes the same basic flow, saying screen content is read on the device and filed into observations and entities.
Observations and entities
Observations are the processed fragments of what was on screen. Entities are the people, projects, and companies the app identifies across those fragments. Each entity is described as having a generated summary, so a record about a project can collect what the app has seen about that project over time rather than leaving you with a list of raw screenshots.
The day journal and replay
The repository describes “Day” as a persisted journal organized into time blocks. A separate feature called “Replay” lets you scrub through what the vendor calls a movie-like record of the day. The practical consequence is that background capture produces a persistent history, not only a short buffer of recent activity. The sources do not say how far back that history reaches, which is covered in the unspecified items below.

Attention reflections and search
The desktop page says Pro can reflect your attention by app and by hour, including measures it calls mind-share and the balance between focus and context switching. Its unified search covers screen content, meetings, clipboard history, and memory, so one query can return results drawn from each of these sources.
Meetings and clipboard history are separate data sources
Readers often assume that everything Pro stores comes from screen capture. The vendor materials describe two other data sources, and they work differently.

Meeting recording
The repository says Google Meet and Zoom meetings can be recorded using screen, system audio, and microphone input. According to the description, the recording is transcribed locally and appears in the timeline with an LLM-generated title, a summary, and a list of attendees. The product page describes local meeting recording and transcription in similar terms. Meeting capture therefore records audio as well as screen content, which is a broader collection than reading text on the screen.
Clipboard history
The repository also describes a searchable clipboard history of copied material, with previews for images, PDFs, and files, stored on the device. If you copy sensitive text, a password manager output, or a document excerpt, that material may be kept in clipboard history whether or not you consider it screen content. Check clipboard behavior separately from screen capture when you review your settings.

Processing location and the vendor’s privacy statements
The repository states: “Everything is explicit opt-in, with a visible recording indicator, and nothing leaves the device.” The official desktop page’s FAQ states: “Capture is opt-in, with a visible indicator.” The desktop page also says screen content is read on the device and that pixels do not leave the disk.
These statements answer where screen content is processed and whether capture is switched on by default. They do not, by themselves, explain how long derived records persist, whether any part of the data is backed up or synced elsewhere, or how completely you can remove it. Treat the claims as the company’s own position until an independent review confirms them.

Platform availability
- The official product page says Pro is currently available on macOS only and is not included in Windows builds.
- The FAQ on the same page identifies the supported hardware as Apple Silicon Macs, M1 and later.
- Windows and Linux stable builds are listed for the base desktop application. That listing does not establish that Pro background capture is available on those platforms.

- The capture interval, meaning how often the screen is captured.
- How long raw screen frames are kept, and how long derived observations and entities are kept.
- A complete list of excluded apps or windows.
- Whether you can pause capture for specific apps, websites, or contexts.
- The full deletion process for derived records, including journal entries, entity summaries, and replay material.
How to check these controls on your own machine
- Confirm that your device is a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or later) and that you are running the Pro edition, since the vendor says Pro is macOS-only.
- Open the app’s settings and find the background capture control. Leave it off until you have checked the remaining steps.
- Turn capture on and confirm that the visible recording indicator appears. If it does not, do not rely on the indicator as a signal that capture is running.
- Look for exclusion and pause options for apps, windows, or sites. Record which ones exist in your build, since the vendor materials do not list them.
- Find the retention and deletion settings. To test deletion, capture a short, low-sensitivity window of activity, delete it through the app’s controls, and check that it no longer appears in the day journal, replay, or unified search.
- Review clipboard history separately, because it is a different data source with its own stored material.
