A DJI controller can beep because it is starting up, has been disconnected from the aircraft, is linking, or is reporting a battery, signal, or other status issue. The sound alone does not identify the cause. Check your controller model, when the beep occurs, its LEDs, and any DJI Fly warning before takeoff. If the aircraft is already flying and the signal is weak or lost, prioritize the aircraft’s configured signal-lost or Return to Home (RTH) behavior over troubleshooting the controller.

Start with the model, timing, and indicators

Identify the controller family first: screen-equipped DJI RC Pro 2, RC Pro, RC, or RC 2; or a phone-connected controller such as RC-N3, RC-N1C, RC-N2, or RC-N1. Then note whether the beep begins at power-on, while the controller is linking, after it has sat disconnected, or during flight. Check the battery-level LEDs and status LED, and read any app warning. Indicator meanings differ between controller families, so do not interpret a light pattern without checking the exact model.

If it beeps immediately after power-on

DJI’s startup-alarm guidance describes a “D-D-D” sound after the remote controller is powered on. Its first troubleshooting prompt asks whether only one battery-level LED is blinking regularly. If that describes your controller, charge it using the instructions for your exact model, then check the LEDs and alarm again.

DJI’s publicly accessible text for this troubleshooting page does not show the complete decision tree, so a single blinking LED is a diagnostic clue—not a complete diagnosis. If charging does not resolve the alarm, or the pattern does not match, consult the model’s current DJI support guidance rather than assuming the beep means low battery.

Read the battery LEDs and controller status

Battery-level LEDs

DJI’s battery indicator guide gives this scale for the controllers covered on that page:

  • Four illuminated LEDs: 76–100% battery.
  • Three illuminated LEDs: 51–75%.
  • Two illuminated LEDs: 26–50%.
  • One illuminated LED: 0–25%.

Status LEDs on DJI RC Pro 2, RC Pro, RC, and RC 2

For these models, DJI describes the following status indications. Check the model-specific guide because these patterns are not documented identically for every controller:

  • Solid red: disconnected from the aircraft.
  • Blinking blue: linking.
  • Solid green: connected.
  • Blinking yellow: controller battery low.
  • Blinking cyan: control sticks are not centered.
  • Blinking red: controller temperature is too high or the aircraft battery is low.
  • Solid yellow: firmware-update failure on DJI RC.

Battery and status LEDs on RC-N and listed legacy controllers

On RC-N3, RC-N1C, RC-N2, RC-N1, MR1SS5, and MR1SD25, the battery LEDs also serve as status indicators. DJI says slow blinking indicates disconnection; LEDs lighting in sequence with a beep indicate linking; and LEDs 2 and 3 blinking indicate a firmware update.

If a screen-equipped controller beeps after being disconnected

DJI says that DJI RC Pro 2, RC Pro, RC, and RC 2 may beep when the aircraft has not connected for a long time. Press the controller’s Power button once to cancel this alarm. Then check that the aircraft and controller connect and that DJI Fly shows no unresolved warning before takeoff. Canceling the sound is not the same as confirming a successful connection.

If the controller is linking or will not connect

A beep can be part of the linking process, rather than an alarm: DJI lists LEDs lighting one by one with a beep as the linking indication for the specified RC-N and legacy controller families. If linking does not complete, follow the procedure in the manual for your controller and aircraft, and check the app for firmware-update prompts. DJI’s indicator descriptions establish the linking signal for those families but do not provide a complete linking procedure for every model.

If the app reports a signal error—or the aircraft is airborne

DJI lists antenna orientation, obstacles or wireless interference, and controller hardware error among possible causes of a controller signal error. Before takeoff, face the controller’s antenna plane toward the aircraft, consider nearby obstacles and interference, and check whether DJI Fly requests a firmware update. If the signal problem persists, DJI advises sending the controller for inspection.

DJI RC-N3 Remote Controller, Compatibility: DJI Flip, DJI Neo, DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Air 3, DJI Air 3S
  • The holder secures your mobile device, allowing you to view high-definition camera feed in real-time via the DJI Fly app on your mobile device.
  • 1. The remote controller comes with USB-C and Lightning connector cables. If needed, you can purchase a Micro-USB connector cable separately.
  • 2. Max Supported Mobile Device Size: 180×86×10 mm (L×W×H).
  • In the Box: Remote Controller × 1, RC Cable (USB-C Connector) ×1, RC Cable (Lightning Connector) × 1
  • Compatibility: DJI Flip, DJI Neo, DJI Mini 4 Pro, DJI Air 3, DJI Air 3S

If the aircraft is already in the air, treat a weak or lost signal as a flight-safety issue, not a nuisance beep. Follow the aircraft’s configured signal-lost behavior and RTH procedure. DJI recommends setting signal-lost behavior to RTH and choosing an RTH altitude higher than surrounding obstacles; set and verify these options before flight. Do not continue a flight simply to diagnose the controller.

Charge by exact controller model

Use DJI’s model-specific charging guidance rather than applying one controller’s charging limit to another. For the listed USB-C models, DJI gives these specifications:

Controller models Charging port Maximum charging power Approximate full-charge time
RC-N3, RC-N1, RC-N2, RC-N1C USB-C 10 W 3 hours 30 minutes
DJI RC, DJI RC 2 USB-C 15 W 1 hour 30 minutes

These are DJI’s stated model-family specifications; the time is approximate. Other controller families have separate instructions. Charging may help when the indicator points to low controller battery, but it will not resolve a disconnection, linking, signal, firmware, or hardware issue by itself.

Calibrate only when the controls are abnormal

A beep alone is not a reason to calibrate. If the sticks or controls behave abnormally, use the calibration flow applicable to your model. DJI Fly’s path is Settings > Control > RC > RC Calibration; the aircraft must be turned off during calibration, and DJI’s guide says to move the left dial through its full left-to-right stroke. For Smart Controller, DJI’s cited guidance uses Joystick Calibration in DJI GO 4 because the option had not been adapted in DJI Fly in that guide.

When to stop troubleshooting

Seek DJI support or inspection if the alarm persists after the relevant battery check, the controller appears damaged, or signal errors continue. Avoid opening the controller or attempting an unsupported repair: DJI identifies controller hardware error as one possible cause of signal problems and directs users with persistent issues toward inspection.
