Hamza Zafar’s October 6, 2026 article highlights six Claude Code mods he keeps enabled: tools for context visibility, code-review monitoring, destructive-action safeguards, Markdown preview, music controls, and agent activity. They are optional plugins, not built-in Claude Code features, and the six are a personal selection rather than a complete catalog.
What “mods” means in Claude Code
In this article, “mod” refers to a Claude Code plugin. Anthropic describes a plugin as a directory of components that is installed and loaded as a unit; it may include skills, agents, hooks, MCP servers, and other components. The official documentation uses “mod” for a plugin with a JavaScript hooks module that can draw panes and add commands. Zafar summarizes the idea as: “A mod is a small plugin that hooks into the app.” Anthropic’s Plugins overview
This is distinct from an IDE extension or a plugin for claude.ai or Cowork. The options below are useful only if their particular job fits your workflow; Zafar’s account is personal experience, not an independent review or a measured productivity study.

What the six highlighted mods do
| Mod | What it shows or does | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| context-bar | Shows context categories—such as the system prompt, tools, MCP, skills, and messages—as a colored bar, and indicates where auto-compaction starts. | When you want a quick visual sense of what is occupying context. |
| review-watch | Monitors background code reviews, showing the model, review target, elapsed time, and latest output, with a toast when a review finishes. Zafar says he uses Codex as a second reviewer. | When you run reviews in the background and want to track their status. |
| blast-radius | Pauses potentially destructive actions, including recursive deletion, force pushes, and database migrations. It displays projected impact and offers Cancel or Proceed; without a response, it cancels after 60 seconds. | When you want an interruption and confirmation point before certain risky operations. |
| md-preview | Renders Markdown in a pane beside the chat and supports before-and-after viewing. | When you edit Markdown and want to inspect its rendered appearance. |
| now-playing | Displays Spotify track progress and lyrics and offers playback controls. | When you want music information and controls alongside your coding session. |
| mission-control | Displays subagents, tool calls, and files they read or write. | When you want more visibility into agent activity. |
These descriptions explain the intended functions, not independently verified reliability or performance. The repository’s current catalog covers more than these six, including context and usage displays, agent and review monitors, workflow aids, integrations, and opt-in diversions such as Snake and YouTube Shorts. Its contents may change, so treat the six as Zafar’s highlighted choices, not the full catalog.

Install a mod through the Claude Code marketplace
The commands Zafar gives add the repository as a marketplace and install one plugin from it. Run them in a terminal where Claude Code is available:
claude plugin marketplace add hamzafer/claude-code-mods
claude plugin install context-bar@claude-code-mods
- Check your Claude Code version. Zafar’s article specifies Claude Code 2.1.287 or newer.
- Add the marketplace by running
claude plugin marketplace add hamzafer/claude-code-mods. - Install the desired plugin, replacing
context-barwith the plugin name where appropriate. For the example, runclaude plugin install context-bar@claude-code-mods. - Restart Claude Code after installation, as the article recommends, then check that the plugin’s interface or commands are available.
Anthropic’s documentation explains that a marketplace catalogs plugins and where Claude Code can fetch them; plugins can also be loaded from a local folder. The repository documents a general-purpose installation option as well as individual plugin installation. Use the repository’s current instructions for the exact plugin you choose, since setup methods and dependencies may change. Anthropic’s Plugins overview · claude-code-mods repository

Check dependencies before choosing
Not every mod is self-contained. The repository’s current documentation gives examples of extra requirements: now-playing requires macOS and Spotify, while the code-view feature in mission-control requires Chrome and a terminal that can display images. Check the current README for the specific mod’s prerequisites and setup before installing; those requirements may change.
What the “20 mods” figure does—and does not—tell you
The number 20 is Zafar’s count for the repository when his article was published on October 6, 2026. It is not an independently verified metric or a count of the current catalog, which the repository documents as having expanded. The repository is described as MIT licensed; that does not establish that Claude Code or any third-party service used by an integration is free. No measured productivity results are supplied, so whether these tools save time or improve your workflow is something to judge against your own needs.

Choose by the problem you want to solve
- For context visibility, consider context-bar.
- For background review status, consider review-watch.
- For a confirmation gate before specified destructive actions, consider blast-radius.
- For rendered Markdown, consider md-preview.
- For playback information and controls, consider now-playing, after checking its platform requirements.
- For visibility into subagents and their file activity, consider mission-control, after checking the code-view dependencies if you need that feature.
Install only the additions that serve a real need in your sessions. A plugin’s presence in the repository does not make it necessary for every Claude Code user.
