In January 2024, CISA directed affected federal agencies to disconnect Ivanti Connect Secure and Ivanti Policy Secure devices from agency networks by February 2, then follow a recovery and account-remediation process. These were historical deadlines—not new requirements for September 2026. The available official records do not establish whether the directive remains active today.

What CISA’s directive covered

CISA’s January 31, 2024 Supplemental Direction V1 applied to federal agencies operating affected Ivanti Connect Secure or Ivanti Policy Secure solutions. It superseded required action 4 in the original Emergency Directive 24-01 (ED 24-01). CISA said attackers were exploiting vulnerabilities to capture credentials and install webshells, which could enable further compromise of agency networks. The agency also reported that some attackers had bypassed earlier mitigations and detections, moved laterally, escalated privileges without detection, and minimized traces of their activity—potentially limiting the effectiveness of Ivanti’s external integrity checker. CISA Supplemental Direction V1

This was a federal directive, not a blanket CISA order to every public- or private-sector Ivanti customer. CISA directives do not apply to statutorily defined national security systems or systems operated by the Department of Defense or the Intelligence Community.

What agencies had to do, and when

Deadline or stage Required action
By 11:59 p.m. February 2, 2024 Disconnect every affected Ivanti Connect Secure and Ivanti Policy Secure instance from agency networks.
While devices were disconnected Continue threat hunting on systems connected to or recently connected to the device; monitor exposed authentication or identity-management services; isolate systems from enterprise resources as much as possible; and audit privileged accounts.
Before returning a device to service Export configuration settings, factory-reset the device according to Ivanti instructions, rebuild it and upgrade to a supported software version, then reimport the configuration. CISA said the supported-version upgrade was available at no cost through Ivanti’s download portal.
As part of recovery Revoke and reissue exposed certificates, keys, and passwords. CISA specifically included the administrative enable password, stored API keys, local gateway-user passwords, and relevant service-account passwords.
By March 1, 2024 Assume associated domain accounts were compromised. For on-premises accounts, reset passwords twice and revoke Kerberos tickets. In hybrid deployments, revoke cloud-account tokens and disable cloud-joined or cloud-registered devices to revoke device tokens.
Reporting Submit agency reports by February 5 and March 1, 2024, and provide further updates upon request until the required actions were complete.

The March 1 account-recovery requirements were not simply an extension of the February 2 disconnect deadline: they addressed credentials, tickets, and tokens associated with potentially compromised accounts.

  • CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
  • EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
  • OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.

How the supplemental directions changed the timeline

Original ED 24-01 and Supplemental Direction V1

V1, issued January 31, 2024, changed required action 4 of ED 24-01 and set the February 2 disconnection deadline, alongside the recovery, account-remediation, and reporting measures described above. The directive’s stated scope was affected federal agencies.

Supplemental Direction V2

FedRAMP’s archived account says V2 superseded V1 and required agencies running specified supported versions affected by CVE-2024-22024 to apply the applicable security updates. It also says other provisions of ED 24-01 remained in effect at that time. That is historical context; it does not confirm the directive’s status in September 2026. Does the order still apply in 2026?

The official material available here does not resolve whether ED 24-01 or its supplemental directions are active or retired as of September 2026. The February 2 and March 1, 2024 dates should therefore be read as past deadlines, not current ones. For present compliance decisions, agencies should check CISA’s current directives index and applicable agency guidance rather than treating the 2024 timeline as a new order.

CISA’s directive characterized the threat this way: “Threat actors continue to leverage vulnerabilities in Ivanti Connect Secure and Ivanti Policy Secure solutions to capture credentials and drop webshells that enable further compromise of enterprise networks.” The statement appears on the issuing agency’s directive page; no individual speaker is named there.
