IREN shares rose 10.1% in September 2026, according to a Motley Fool analysis published October 5, 2026 that cites S&P Global Market Intelligence. The article ties the gain to IREN’s August 27 FY2026 results and the story around its AI Cloud expansion. That story covers existing data-center capacity, new customer signings, Microsoft contract expansion and renewal, and higher pricing on multi-year contracts. That is an analyst’s interpretation. Nothing published establishes a single cause or shows which trading days produced the gain.
The short version: a monthly move with a plausible narrative
The 10.1% figure is a whole-month performance number. It does not say the return came from one announcement, and no day-by-day price and volume breakdown is available to pin it to a specific event. The most defensible reading is that September’s gain followed a results release that gave investors fresh numbers and a bigger target to price in.
What IREN reported on August 27
IREN describes itself as a vertically integrated AI Cloud platform that provides data centers, compute and software for AI training and inference. Its FY2026 results release (August 27, 2026) contained the figures investors most likely reacted to:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- $1 billion operating ARR as of August 26, 2026.
- A target of more than $4 billion ARR operational by December 31, 2026.
Co-CEO Daniel Roberts said in the release: “We are continuing to contract future capacity with a deliberate strategy, building a diversified base of counterparties and preserving room for higher-value managed services and software.” That is management’s description of its own strategy, not an independent assessment.

Why ARR is not revenue
IREN states that ARR is an operating metric. It is not a U.S. GAAP measure and does not substitute for GAAP revenue, and recognized revenue may be materially lower. The $4 billion target rests on internal assumptions about utilization and pricing. Revenue is expected to ramp only after capacity is delivered, and that depends on commissioning, testing and customer acceptance.
The contract momentum before September
Earlier announcements built the growth narrative that the August results then reinforced. These came before September, so they are context, not proven drivers of specific trading sessions.

The analyst’s explanation for the September gain
The Motley Fool piece points to four themes:
- Existing capacity. IREN can use data-center capacity it already has. The article argues this may help it relative to rivals if public resistance to new data-center construction slows new projects.
- New customer signings. These widen the customer base beyond a single buyer.
- Microsoft. The article cites expansion and renewal of Microsoft contracts.
- Pricing. The company reports higher pricing for multi-year contracts.
These are the author’s inferences about what investors valued. They are not proof of what moved the stock.

IREN’s own release lists the uncertainties that could keep the targets from being met:
Rank #3
- Access to capital, and matching contracts with capex and financing.
- Construction and commissioning schedules.
- GPU availability and cost.
- Ability to meet service levels.
- Customer retention and concentration.
- Adequate power and grid connections.
- Risks from repurposing Bitcoin-mining facilities, and hardware obsolescence.
Treat the revenue targets and expected capacity as conditional, forward-looking statements.
