Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s October 3, 2026, media advisory previews a federal announcement of investments under the National Food Security Strategy. It says the investments are intended to help lower food costs and give consumers more options, but it does not disclose funding amounts, projects, recipients, locations or timelines.

What is the Government of Canada announcing?

The notice says the government will announce investments under the National Food Security Strategy, describing their aims as helping lower food costs and providing more options for consumers. Those are stated objectives, not evidence that prices have fallen or that consumer choice has already increased.

The advisory names the Honourable Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, and the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, as the ministers making the announcement. Daniel Gobeil, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and MP for Chicoutimi—Le Fjord, Quebec, is also listed as attending. When and where is the announcement?

The advisory schedules the event for October 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, 901 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K2C 3R6. Because the notice was published October 3, it is an advance notice rather than a report on what was announced at the event.

How much is the government investing, and who will receive it?

The advisory does not state a total investment, individual funding amounts, recipient organizations, project names, geographic allocations or implementation timelines. It therefore does not yet let readers assess how funding would be divided or when any supported work might begin.

What can readers conclude about food costs and choice?

Only that the government describes lower food costs and more consumer options as goals of the investments. The notice provides no outcome measurements, project details or evidence that would establish how much prices might change, which communities or parts of the food distribution system would benefit, or when effects could be seen.

For context, Cantech Letter also carried a syndicated copy of the notice; it does not supply separate project or allocation details.
