You can cook much more than fries in an air fryer: meat, fish, vegetables, frozen foods, baked treats and leftovers are all listed uses in Philips’ guidance. Cookware, liners and capacity are less universal. Check your exact model’s manual before using foil, parchment or an unfamiliar dish, and leave room for hot air to circulate.

Foods you can cook in an air fryer

Air fryers can handle many foods commonly roasted, grilled or fried. Philips lists chicken, beef and fish, along with grillable vegetables such as zucchini, corn on the cob and peppers. Its examples also include frozen snacks and reheating foods such as pizza slices and bread rolls. These are manufacturer-supported uses for Philips Airfryers, not a guarantee that every model has the same capacity or instructions. Philips’ food guidance is a useful starting point; follow your own appliance’s manual.

Frozen and breaded foods

Philips says its Airfryer can cook frozen ingredients without defrosting first, though they may take slightly longer. For homemade breaded food, the company advises adding a little oil to the breading. Use recipe directions suited to your appliance and avoid filling the pan with oil.

Baking and reheating

Philips lists cakes, tarts, muffins, bread and homemade pizza as possible Airfryer preparations. Casseroles, including lasagna, can be cooked in a dish that fits the basket. Reheating leftovers is another supported use; arrange food so hot air can reach it rather than crowding the basket.

Cookware and bakeware: what may fit

Philips says its Airfryer can use ovenproof glass, ceramic, metal or silicone dishes and molds. Silicone or paper cupcake cups and molds may also be used for cupcakes, muffins or small gratins. This is Philips-specific guidance: do not assume that every ovenproof item is suitable for every air fryer.

Choose a dish that fits inside the basket and leaves space around its sides for air to pass. Philips advises placing the baking dish in the basket rather than directly in the pan, where it can block airflow. Its accessories and maximum dish dimensions vary by model, so check compatibility for your exact appliance. Use oven mitts to remove hot cookware.

Check these points before using a dish

  • The material is ovenproof and permitted by your air fryer’s manual.
  • The dish’s outer dimensions and height fit the basket.
  • There is room around it for hot air to circulate.
  • The dish suits the recipe without being filled too high.
  • The accessory is compatible with your specific model.

Parchment, paper, plastic and foil

A loose, lightweight parchment or baking-paper liner can be lifted by airflow into the heating element. Philips’ manual says never to put baking or parchment paper in without placing the food on top of it. That instruction explains how to keep an allowed liner weighted; it does not mean every air fryer permits every liner. Check your manual before using parchment.

The same Philips manual warns against putting paper, cardboard or non-heat-resistant plastic in the appliance. Follow your own model’s material restrictions. Foil guidance is not universal, so consult the manual rather than assuming foil is safe or prohibited in every air fryer.

Oil, liquids and foods that block airflow

An air fryer cooks by circulating hot air; it is not a pan to fill with oil. Philips’ manual says, “This appliance works with hot air only; food is not fried in oil or fat! Never fill the pan with fat or oil.” A small amount of oil used as an ingredient or on food is different from filling the pan; follow the recipe and appliance instructions.

Leave room for air to move around the food and cookware. Philips advises against completely covering the basket bottom with meat and says to observe the appliance’s MAX indication and model-specific capacity guidance. Overfilling can interfere with circulation and even cooking.

How much can you put in?

Capacity depends on the model and the food. Philips lists French-fry basket capacities ranging from 500 to 2,000 grams across its Airfryer models; that range is a model comparison, not a universal recommendation. For best results, its guidance suggests filling to about two-thirds of the MAX indication. Check your own basket markings and manual rather than applying those quantities to another brand or model.

Using an air fryer for batter and rising mixtures

Philips advises filling baking pans no more than halfway because batter rises. If it rises to the heating element, the top may burn. Leave the recommended clearance around the pan as well as room above the batter, and make sure the dish remains within the basket’s limits.

Quick checklist before cooking

  • Check your air fryer’s manual for permitted cookware, liners and materials.
  • Confirm a dish fits the basket and leaves airflow clearance.
  • Keep parchment weighted by food during cooking if your model allows it.
  • Do not fill the pan with oil or another liquid.
  • Observe the MAX line, avoid crowding, and leave rising batter room.
