Starlink V2 Mini is SpaceX’s smaller second-generation satellite, designed to launch on Falcon 9. SpaceX said it has four times the capacity for serving users compared with earlier counterparts—but that is a company-reported satellite-capacity claim, not a promise that an individual customer’s internet speed will quadruple.
What is a Starlink V2 Mini satellite?
SpaceX announced its second-generation Starlink satellites on February 26, 2023. It described two V2 designs: a full-size version intended for Starship and a smaller version compatible with Falcon 9, which it called V2 Mini. The name refers to the satellite’s size and launch role, not a separate consumer Starlink product. SpaceX’s announcement introduced the distinction.
V2 Mini satellites are broadband infrastructure in low Earth orbit. In its June 5, 2026 EU prospectus, SpaceX described them as its current broadband satellites serving homes, businesses, and vehicles, launched on Falcon rockets.

SpaceX’s 2023 Progress Report said a V2 Mini satellite has four times the capacity for serving users compared with its “earlier counterparts.” The comparison is SpaceX’s; its announcement does not precisely define the baseline satellites, assumptions, or calculation behind the multiplier. The figure should therefore be read as a company-stated per-satellite capacity comparison, not an independently reproducible benchmark. SpaceX’s 2023 report also said increased satellite throughput was intended to provide more bandwidth and increased reliability for end users.

Why that does not mean four times faster internet
Satellite capacity describes how much network traffic the satellite can serve; it is not the same as the speed measured on one customer’s connection. The cited material does not show that a particular household or user will receive four times the download speed. Actual service depends on factors beyond the stated per-satellite capacity, and the report frames more bandwidth and reliability as intended network benefits rather than a guaranteed individual result.
What SpaceX reported about V2 Mini’s capacity and design
SpaceX’s 2024 Progress Report gives V2 Mini a capacity of 96 Gbps per satellite. It does not provide enough information in the cited material to reconstruct the earlier four-times comparison from that figure. The same report describes an optimized V2 Mini version introduced in 2024:

How V2 Mini compares with full-size V2 and V3
| Satellite design | Role and launch vehicle | Capacity information in SpaceX sources | Status or timing stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-size V2 | Second-generation design intended for Starship. | Not stated in the cited material. | Described as the Starship-compatible version in SpaceX’s 2023 announcement. |
| V2 Mini | Smaller V2 design launched on Falcon 9. | SpaceX said four times the capacity for serving users compared with earlier counterparts in 2023; its 2024 report lists 96 Gbps per satellite. | SpaceX’s June 2026 prospectus described it as its current broadband satellite generation in orbit. |
| V3 | Successor broadband satellite designed for Starship deployment. | SpaceX said it was designed for 1 Tbps of downlink capacity per satellite. | In its June 2026 prospectus, SpaceX forecast Starship deployment in the second half of 2026; this was a plan, not confirmation of deployment. |
The values in this table are not a like-for-like independent test: the four-times claim is a comparison to an unspecified earlier baseline, 96 Gbps is a separately reported V2 Mini figure, and 1 Tbps is a design target for V3. The V3 capability and schedule are SpaceX statements in its June 5, 2026 EU prospectus.
