AMD used its January 6, 2025 CES announcement to unveil new Ryzen gaming processors and preview its next-generation RDNA 4 graphics architecture. It did not formally launch the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 at CES; AMD announced those RX 9000 graphics cards later, on February 28, 2025.
What AMD announced around CES 2025
AMD’s January 6 announcement covered three distinct gaming processor categories: Ryzen 9950X3D and 9900X3D desktop CPUs, the Ryzen Z2 family for handheld PCs, and Ryzen 9000HX mobile processors. RDNA 4 was part of the broader CES graphics story as a preview, not a retail launch of the RX 9070-series cards.

Ryzen Z2 is a family of processors designed for handheld gaming PCs. Its members do not all use the same graphics architecture or have the same core counts. AMD’s January 2025 specifications were:
#1 Best Overall
- Processor provides dependable and fast execution of tasks with maximum efficiency.Graphics Frequency : 2200 MHZ.Number of CPU Cores : 8. Maximum Operating Temperature (Tjmax) : 89°C.
- Ryzen 7 product line processor for better usability and increased efficiency
- 5 nm process technology for reliable performance with maximum productivity
- Octa-core (8 Core) processor core allows multitasking with great reliability and fast processing speed
- 8 MB L2 plus 96 MB L3 cache memory provides excellent hit rate in short access time enabling improved system performance
| Processor | CPU cores/threads | Maximum boost | Integrated graphics | Configurable TDP |

| Ryzen Z2 Extreme | 8 / 16 | Up to 5.0 GHz | RDNA 3.5, 16 graphics cores | 15–35W |
| Ryzen Z2 | 8 / 16 | Up to 5.1 GHz | RDNA 3, 12 graphics cores | 15–30W |
| Ryzen Z2 Go | 4 / 8 | Up to 4.3 GHz | RDNA 2, 12 graphics cores | 15–30W |
These are AMD-published processor specifications, not benchmark results or promises about a complete handheld’s frame rates or battery life. Device cooling, power settings, battery capacity, screen and software all affect real-world performance and endurance.
How the current Z-series lineup differs
AMD’s product-family page, accessed October 4, 2026, also lists Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme and Ryzen Z2 A. It specifies the AI Z2 Extreme as an 8-core/16-thread chip with RDNA 3.5 graphics, a 15–35W range and up to 50 NPU TOPS; the Z2 A is listed with 4 cores/8 threads, RDNA 2 graphics and a 6–20W range. This later lineup should not be mistaken for the set AMD presented in its January 2025 CES announcement.

Did AMD launch RDNA 4 GPUs at CES?
No. CES 2025 offered a preview of RDNA 4, while AMD’s formal RX 9000 announcement followed on February 28, 2025. That announcement introduced the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 as physical graphics cards built on the new architecture.
AMD published performance comparisons for the RX 9000 launch based on tests by AMD Performance Labs in February 2025. Those are vendor measurements, not independent reviews. Any comparison should be read with the listed game, resolution, settings, comparison card and test configuration in view; the AMD page identifies an RX 7900 GRE comparison system.
