The Wharfedale Diamond 12.1i HCP is a 5.1 speaker package comprising four Diamond 12.1i standmount speakers, a 12.1Ci centre speaker and an SW10 subwoofer. What Hi-Fi?’s October 2026 review praised its detail, spaciousness, cohesion and bass, but buyers should budget separately for stands and a compatible AV receiver. Its review price was £999 in the UK; prices and availability vary by market.

What comes in the Wharfedale Diamond 12.1i HCP?

The package contains five speakers and a subwoofer:

  • Two pairs of Diamond 12.1i standmount speakers: one pair for the front left and right channels, and one for the surrounds.
  • One Diamond 12.1Ci centre speaker for dialogue and other front-centre audio.
  • One SW10 powered subwoofer for low-frequency effects and bass.

This is a 5.1 system, not a Dolby Atmos package. Wharfedale’s 12.3Di height speakers are mentioned as an expansion option, but they are not included. What Hi-Fi?’s review of the i-generation package is the source for these contents: What Hi-Fi? review, 6 October 2026.

How does it sound?

What Hi-Fi? describes the package as detailed, spacious and cohesive, with dynamic performance, controlled deep bass and natural dialogue. Its listening evaluation used a Denon AVC-A1H AV amplifier and an Oppo UDP-203 4K Blu-ray player. Those are the reviewer’s findings in that setup, not a guarantee of the same result in every room or with every receiver.

  • PRECISE AUDIO - The 1" textile dome tweeter ensures accurate high-frequency reproduction, delivering crisp and clear treble for a truly immersive and detailed sound experience at home.
  • ELEGANT DESIGN - The Light Oak finish and meticulously crafted cabinet (45.27 x 7.87 x 14.88") add a touch of sophistication to any room, blending seamlessly with your home decor while enhancing sound.

The review also notes slight fuzz on two effects during its Blade Runner 2049 test. The reviewer initially found the front speakers a little lean; moving them closer to the wall restored warmth. That placement observation is useful when tuning the system, though the right distance depends on the room.

What are the speaker and subwoofer specifications?

Wharfedale’s official specifications apply to the individual 12.1i standmount speaker, not to the complete HCP package. The centre and subwoofer figures below come from What Hi-Fi?’s package review.

Diamond 12.1i standmount 130 mm advanced polypropylene-cone bass driver; 25 mm textile-dome tweeter; 88 dB sensitivity; 20–100 W recommended amplifier power; nominally 8 ohms, with a 4-ohm minimum impedance; 65 Hz–20 kHz frequency response; 312 × 180 × (250+28) mm dimensions. Source: Wharfedale’s 12.1i specifications.
Diamond 12.1Ci centre 90 Hz–20 kHz frequency response and 90 dB sensitivity, as listed in What Hi-Fi?’s package review.
SW10 subwoofer 40–120 Hz frequency range and 200 W amplifier output; the review also reports a claimed 350 W peak output. These are distinct ratings, not interchangeable descriptions of continuous output.

The 12.1i is a two-way bass-reflex design, while the 12.1Ci centre is a two-way closed-box design. What Hi-Fi? notes a redesigned bass port and tighter production tolerances for the i-generation, and says the speakers share driver technology intended to support cohesion across the system. Wharfedale describes the 12.1i’s Klarity cone material as a polypropylene-and-mica blend and says its cabinet construction and spot bracing are intended to reduce resonance.

What else do you need to buy?

Speaker stands

The four 12.1i front and surround speakers are standmount models. Stands are not listed as part of the package contents, and What Hi-Fi? specifically advises buyers to include their cost in the budget. Plan for suitable, stable stands and enough room to place the front pair where they can be adjusted relative to the wall.

A 5.1 AV receiver

The HCP is a speaker package, not a receiver bundle. You need an AV receiver with outputs and processing for a 5.1 speaker system, plus suitable subwoofer connectivity. Wharfedale recommends 20–100 W amplifier power for each 12.1i and lists nominal 8-ohm impedance with a 4-ohm minimum. Check a receiver’s specifications and operating guidance for a complete 5.1 system; the speaker’s recommended range alone does not establish that every receiver is suitable.

What did the package cost, and where was it available?

What Hi-Fi?’s review, published 6 October 2026, gave a UK test price of £999 for the package and £1,126 if its components were bought separately. For Australia, the review reported a component total of AU$3,300: AU$700 per pair of 12.1i speakers, AU$700 for the 12.1Ci and AU$1,200 for the SW10. These are dated review figures, not current-price guarantees. The review said the complete bundle was not being sold pre-assembled in Australia at that time and that the 12.1Ci was then unavailable in the US. Check local retailers for current stock, exact model generation and pricing before buying.

Is the Diamond 12.1i HCP a good fit?

It is worth considering if you want a conventional 5.1 system built around matched standmount speakers and value dialogue clarity, an integrated sound field and substantial bass. The review’s favorable assessment is a useful listening reference, but your room, placement and receiver will affect the result.

Before comparing prices or alternatives, confirm that listings specify the 12.1i generation and include the 12.1Ci centre and SW10 subwoofer. Wharfedale Australia also has information for the earlier non-i Diamond 12.1 HCP, which uses a 12.C centre; that is a different configuration. The earlier-generation page is here: Wharfedale Australia’s Diamond 12.1 HCP page.
