The Westinghouse WVEP617DSC is a 60 cm, dark stainless steel, multifunction electric oven with a PyroClean pyrolytic cleaning system, 72 L of usable capacity and a two-year domestic warranty, according to Westinghouse Australia’s product page. Whether it suits a given kitchen depends mostly on the cabinet cut-out, and the manufacturer and CHOICE publish different installation measurements, so check those before you buy. This review is based on manufacturer specifications and a displayed listing price. It is not based on hands-on cooking tests.

Installation fit: check the cut-out first
The WVEP617DSC is the kind of purchase where a mismatch in the cabinet opening costs more than the oven’s features are worth, so measure before you compare anything else. Westinghouse’s fact sheet gives two installation configurations, and they are not the same size.

CHOICE lists a cut-out of 590 × 565 × 560 mm without naming a fit type, and gives external dimensions of 600 × 600 × 570 mm. Those external figures do not match Westinghouse’s 596 × 573 × 597 mm, so the two sets should not be treated as interchangeable. Use the installation instructions and your own cabinet measurements as the deciding reference.
- Obtain the installation instructions for the WVEP617DSC from Westinghouse and confirm which fit type your kitchen requires.
- Measure the cabinet opening’s height, width and depth at the front and at the back. Record the smallest figure at each point.
- Compare those measurements with the figures for the specific fit type, not with the CHOICE cut-out figures alone.
- Confirm that the external dimensions allow for ventilation and power connection behind the oven, as the installation instructions specify.
- Ask the seller to confirm that the model you are buying matches the WVEP617DSC name exactly, because similarly named Westinghouse ovens use different cleaning systems and feature counts.
PyroClean: what the manufacturer claims
PyroClean is the model’s pyrolytic cleaning feature. Westinghouse lists light-soil and medium-soil pyrolytic settings and describes the process in one sentence: “The oven turns on to an extremely high temperature, turning grease and grime into ash.” That is manufacturer wording. The sources reviewed here do not include an independent test of how completely the cycle removes baked-on soil, so treat the sentence as a description of intent rather than a measured result.

Running a pyrolytic cycle
Read the user manual for this model before the first cycle, because pyrolytic ovens have model-specific instructions. Most pyrolytic ovens ask you to remove trays, racks and runners before cleaning, and to ventilate the kitchen while the cycle runs. Allow the oven to cool before you open the door or wipe the interior. Confirm each of these points against the manual rather than relying on this article.
Cooking modes
Westinghouse’s product page lists these functions by name: fan grill, traditional bake, pizza, rapid heat, grill, fan-forced cooking, AirFry, EasyBake +Steam, maxi grill, base heat and PyroClean. Mode names differ between brands and between Westinghouse models, so the manual is the reliable guide to what each setting does and which heating elements it uses.

The oven offers 80 L gross and 72 L usable capacity. Usable capacity is the figure Westinghouse uses for the interior, and it is the more practical number for planning. CHOICE gives internal baking dimensions of 330 × 480 × 430 mm and five shelf positions. Telescopic runners let you slide a loaded tray out without lifting it, which matters most with heavy roasting dishes. Before buying a tray or dish, check it against the internal baking dimensions rather than the external oven size.

WVEP617DSC or WVE617DSC?
Westinghouse also sells the WVE617DSC, which is a different model. The two are easy to confuse, so compare the model number exactly before you rely on any measurement or price.
