The Westinghouse WHI955BD is a 90 cm, five-zone induction cooktop with a black ceramic-glass surface. Whether it suits a kitchen comes down to three checks: whether your benchtop cutout matches its listed 880 × 490 mm opening, whether your electrical supply can handle its hardwired 7.35 kW connection with a 32 A maximum current rating, and whether your cookware and rangehood work with its boil-detection and extraction features. This review is based on the manufacturer’s specifications, its feature pages and published third-party listings. It is not a report of hands-on testing, and it does not rank the cooktop’s cooking performance.

What the WHI955BD is

Westinghouse positions the WHI955BD as a built-in induction cooktop with five cooking zones and a set of control and convenience functions: BoilProtect, Bridge Zone, MaxiZone, Hob2Hood, PowerBoost, Pause, keep-warm, and touch-and-slide controls. The manufacturer lists a two-year domestic warranty. Because it is a built-in unit, the practical questions are less about the cooking features themselves and more about whether the physical opening, the power supply and the surrounding kitchen equipment are compatible.

Fit and dimensions

The manufacturer’s dimension sheet gives the following values. It describes its diagram as a guide only and points owners to the product manual for complete installation instructions.

Specification Listed value Source
Overall dimensions 900 mm wide × 520 mm deep × 51 mm high Westinghouse dimension sheet (undated)
Cutout dimensions 880 mm wide × 490 mm deep Westinghouse dimension sheet (undated)
Cooking zones Five induction zones Westinghouse product page
Surface Black ceramic glass Westinghouse product page

Before ordering, check the existing opening against the cutout figures, not the overall size. A 900 mm overall width only fits a benchtop designed for it, and the 51 mm height matters if your underside clearance is tight. Confirm the cutout with a tape measure at the actual benchtop, then compare it against the current manual, because the diagram on the dimension sheet is not a substitute for the installation instructions.

Klarstein Induction Cooker, Glass Ceramic Hob, 5 Zones, Recessed Induction Hob with Touch Display, Digital Display and Timer, Fast Heating
  • POWERFUL COOKING ON INDUCTION: With 9300 watts of cooking power and ThermoBoost function, you quickly bring any induction zone to high temperature, so that water boils faster and heats up dishes shorter.
  • FLEXIBLE COOKING WITH VARIOHEATING: Thanks to the VarioHeating mode, you can combine two cooking zones into a large zone, ideal for large pans, roasting trays and baking dishes.
  • EFFECTIVE WITH ECO AND THERMORECALL: ECO Mode uses residual heat to save energy, while ThermoRecall remembers your cooking setting if cooking is interrupted in the meantime.
  • EASY TOUCH OPERATION: Control the hob via the touch control panel with digital display and Klarstein SenseControl technology, for precise control over every cooking mode.
  • SAFE COOKING IN THE KITCHEN: Multiple safeguards such as timer, child lock, overheat protection, automatic shutdown and panda detection ensure worry-free cooking.

Electrical supply

The manufacturer lists a connected load of 7.35 kW, a hardwired connection and a maximum current rating of 32 A. Hardwired means the unit is connected directly to the household circuit rather than plugged into a socket, so the installation is a job for a licensed electrician or qualified installer.

  • Ask the electrician to confirm that the circuit and supply can carry the 32 A maximum rating, and whether the existing cable and protective device are suitable.
  • Check whether your kitchen already has a dedicated circuit for a cooktop of this size, or whether a new one is needed as part of the renovation.
  • Do not assume a cooktop with a similar rating will connect the same way. Follow the connection requirements in the current manual.

The dimensions and load listed here are the manufacturer’s figures for this model. They do not show whether any particular home can support the cooktop.

Features and their limits

Manufacturer features are useful only when you know their conditions. The points below are taken from Westinghouse’s own descriptions, and none of them has been independently verified in performance testing.

BoilProtect

Westinghouse describes BoilProtect as a function that detects rising bubbles and lowers heat automatically. Its feature page limits the function to stainless steel and enamelled pots filled with water. When boiling is detected, the cooktop signals this and drops the heat setting to 5. The manufacturer’s wording is: “BoilProtect detects rising bubbles and automatically reduces to a low simmer.”

In practice, this means BoilProtect is designed for stainless steel or enamelled pots containing water. It is not described as working with aluminium, copper or cast-iron cookware, or with non-water contents. If you cook sauces, milk or stock in a non-stainless pan, plan to monitor the pot yourself.

Bridge Zone and MaxiZone

Bridge Zone lets two induction zones be used separately or linked, which suits a long griddle, oval pan or large irregular cookware. MaxiZone is described as an extra-large zone for larger pans. Both features depend on using cookware that matches the zone design, so check the pan dimensions and base shape against the manual’s guidance before relying on either function for a specific pan.

Hob2Hood

Hob2Hood can automatically switch on and adjust a compatible rangehood when the cooktop is in use. The function requires a compatible hood. Westinghouse’s listed material does not name specific compatible rangehood models, so confirm compatibility with Westinghouse or the hood manufacturer before purchasing a hood for this feature. Without a compatible hood, the cooktop still works as a standalone induction unit.

Warranty, manual and replacement parts

Westinghouse lists a two-year domestic warranty and provides the WHI955BD user manual, dimension sheet and fact sheet through its support pages. The manual is the most important document to read before purchase because it contains the installation instructions the dimension sheet refers to.

For repairs, Westinghouse’s parts shop lists black ceramic-glass cooking top part 140044156473 as compatible with the WHI955BD. Its fit-check tool advises consulting the manual or the manufacturer when a model match cannot be confirmed. Check the part number against the label on your appliance before ordering a replacement.

Who this cooktop suits

The WHI955BD is most relevant if you match the following conditions. If several do not apply, consider the alternatives in the next section.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Your benchtop opening is 880 × 490 mm, or can be modified to that size by a qualified installer.
  • Your home can supply a hardwired connection at the listed load and 32 A maximum current.
  • You cook mainly with stainless steel or enamelled pans, and you value automatic boil detection for water-based cooking.
  • You regularly use large or oval cookware that would benefit from Bridge Zone or MaxiZone.
  • You are willing to confirm rangehood compatibility before relying on Hob2Hood.

Comparing it with other 90 cm induction cooktops

When you compare the WHI955BD with other 90 cm induction models, use the same criteria for each one rather than the headline features alone:

  • Cutout size and whether it matches your existing opening.
  • Electrical load, connection type and current rating.
  • Number and arrangement of zones, and whether any zones bridge.
  • Large-pan support and the cookware each feature requires.
  • Compatible rangehood options and whether they are confirmed for your hood.
  • Warranty length and the availability of manuals and replacement parts.
  • Independently published test results with a date and method.

The available evidence does not allow a reliable performance ranking of the WHI955BD against specific competitors, so compare on the measurable items above first.

The Bottom Line

The Westinghouse WHI955BD is a 90 cm, five-zone induction cooktop with a listed 880 × 490 mm cutout, a 7.35 kW hardwired connection and a 32 A maximum current. It is a sensible option to shortlist if your opening and electrical supply match those figures and you cook mainly with stainless steel or enamelled water-based pans. Confirm the installation requirements in the manual, have a qualified installer check the supply, and verify rangehood compatibility before you rely on Hob2Hood.
